Only victory counts as success. Defeat means gaining nothing.
"What kind of garbage design is this?"
A designer's first duty is to give everything for their designs.
Irene, the red-haired chief designer of the international brand Live, has always been unconventional. She has an almost obsessive command of color. She can put on a show in Yokohama, paint in Tokyo, make clothes for orphans, or tailor a suit for a celebrity. She does whatever she pleases.
"Clothes are the first courtesy you show when meeting someone."
To make that happen, she set fire to the old family estate when she was eight. As the entire mansion went up in flames that day, she saw the most vivid color of her life...
People always assume that the sons of prominent families are suited to serving their clan, while the daughters are suited to marrying for the family's benefit. But she thinks there's no need for such restrictive ideas. Even the so-called "White Kirin," hailed as having "the potential to surpass the gifted," is nothing more than a designer handbag for the family.
Back when she was still Kamo Haruko, those restrictive ideas really did exist in her mind.
But when Shibusawa Tatsuhiko pursued what he called light in a way that showed no respect for art, she was furious. Art was merely a seasoning in his life, but it was her entire life. She had thought he was looking for inspiration, but instead he was off doing something so pointless. Black-and-white clothes without proper tailoring and carefully mixed accessories are a disaster!
"Ability: [Color Spectrum]."
She draws out the colors of emotions, and what she dyes with them is naturally the most intense of feelings.
Beautiful eyes, like rubies.
"...What an ugly color." The first color she'd ever drawn from her own emotions was filthy, hideous, and repulsive. The dress she named "A Girl's Secret Feelings" made her an overnight sensation, but she could never dye a color like that again.
Of course, the reason a witch is a witch is that she's harsher on herself than she is on others. She began with her first pigments, extracting color from her own emotions again and again until she could no longer feel anything at all.
On a drizzly day, she crouched in front of Shibusawa Tatsuhiko's tombstone, smoking. Then she discovered that he wasn't dead. No, he was dead, but what had survived was his ability manifestation.
"So you're his '???'" A child shivered beneath the moonlight, then turned into a tiger. Her expression grew more and more excited. "Wonderful! A fresh source of inspiration!"
Shock! The man-eating tiger has turned into a riot of colors?!
Shock! Live's latest couture collection is made from tiger hide?!
