After graduating, Wen Li became bound to a System that could deliver requests for help from animals all over the world, from stray cats and dogs on city streets to penguins across the ocean.
With the System's help, he could reach the scene right away and rescue animals from all kinds of predicaments. Completing rescues earned him a salary as well as special rewards. It was the perfect job for an animal lover.
And so Wen Li began his fantastical daily life of rescuing animals...
Taking a kitten from a garbage heap where it was nearly buried under trash, stopping a golden retriever from making a desperate dash across the road, saving a famous lion king targeted by poachers, rescuing a flock of penguins whose feathers were coated in oil...
One second he was leisurely petting cats and dogs at the clinic; the next he was flying to the grasslands to run alongside a herd of Tibetan antelope.
One moment he was watching a video of people rescuing sea lions on a beach; the next he was at the beach, net in hand, chasing the wriggling creatures.
He had just seen a news report about the strange behavior of an elephant herd when the System received a request for help from a lost baby elephant.
Wen Li: We can save them, every last one!
Wen Li: System, help me up. I can keep going!
The constant emergencies kept Wen Li on his feet, but he was still perfectly content.
Personally bringing each weakly breathing little animal back from the brink, watching their eyes soften with trust as fear and despair gave way, getting to touch all kinds of wild animals he'd only ever seen in documentaries, and even having the chance to exchange a few words with them: it was all wonderful.
