When an Overthinker Meets a Mastermind

The first protagonist is named A. He is a supporting character in a novel where everyone overinterprets things.

His defining trait is his vivid imagination and tendency to read too much into things. Faced with everything the protagonist says and does, he can always spin it into something more, then tremble in fear of the protagonist's nonexistent, terrifying abilities.

The second protagonist is named B. He is the lead in a novel about a mastermind working behind the scenes.

His defining traits are keeping his cards close to his chest and having an all-seeing perspective. To those around him, he always seems utterly ordinary, but in truth he is secretly orchestrating every major event, manipulating things from the shadows.

By a twist of fate, a disturbance in the space-time continuum brings these two together in a new world.

A looks at B and instinctively activates his defining trait. No matter what happens, he is more convinced than anyone that B must have done it, even without a shred of evidence.

B looks at A, feeling his dignity teeter on the brink. He racks his brain but cannot figure out what gave him away, or why this guy is hunting him down.

Well, maybe that's just how the food chain works for certain character archetypes :)
