Song Fengmian refuses to leave the house, hates the outside world, and is extremely aggressive. In short, she's crazy.

Then one day, she woke up to find she'd transmigrated into a book. She'd arrived on the eve of her wedding, and her husband-to-be was a proper, honest man.

He's clueless about romance and has neither money nor power. His good points are that he's handsome and well-built, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and that he lets his wife call the shots.

He caters to Song Fengmian's every whim and keeps her at home, curing ninety-nine percent of her madness.

That last one percent is almost more than he can bear. Song Fengmian loses control of her emotions by day and her behavior by night. Every day, he gets pinned into his pillow, left with nothing to do but whimper and beg his wife to go easy on him.

When Song Fengmian calms down, she always feels guilty. She strokes his face and asks, "Why don't you fight back?"

Qin Zhijing clings to her, looking aggrieved. The nearly six-foot-four man curls up like a pitiful puppy and whispers, "I can't beat you."

Song Fengmian believes him.

Until, on a whim, she steps outside and sees her husband in a black uniform, slamming someone face-down onto the ground without batting an eye before shooting them in the head.

In this cannibalistic city, the Inspectorate led by Qin Zhijing is the only law there is, and the source of everyone's fear.

At home, he's gentle and obedient. Outside, his hands are covered in blood.

Later, she becomes afraid of him.

Tears well up in Qin Zhijing's eyes, threatening to spill.

He kneels humbly on the ground and reaches out to the wary Song Fengmian, offering her the steel ruler the Inspectorate captain always keeps with him.

"Wife, don't be afraid of me." His voice is on the verge of breaking. "Hit me again, okay?"

"You can hit me however you want. Just don't be afraid of me..."

Because of the dystopian setting, neither character has values like those of a normal person in the 21st century. This is a very unhinged couple.

The female lead is mentally fragile. When provoked, she can lose control, fly into a rage, or even faint. One day she's playing the pampered wife; the next, she's going berserk on the spot.

The male lead is a hardcore masochist [hopeless romantic], [with tendencies toward being a manipulative, possessive yandere], and [will actively beg to be beaten].

The male lead would die ten thousand times for the female lead and would never do anything that harms her interests. But he's not a puppet. The leads will have moments of [underlying conflict] and [push and pull], because the author likes that sort of thing. If you want a submissive, emotionless tool who never has a mind of his own, this book definitely isn't for you.
