The Grain Bureau in the 1970s

Chen Bai transmigrates into a book titled The 1970s: The XX Road to Prosperity.

To her surprise, all four members of her family have arrived too.

Her father, the most educated person in the family, is now an illiterate who has never attended a literacy class.

Her mother, who has never cooked, is now the head chef in the cafeteria and an official in the Women's Federation.

Her once tall and imposing dark-skinned younger brother has become a skinny telephone pole.

He's only eighteen, and he's getting married already???

And she has become a minor female character in the book who throws herself at a male educated youth. She has just been humiliated and saddled with a terrible reputation. In the original story, she even marries a man who has already been married once and has six children!

Chen Bai decisively distances herself from the female lead, her foil.

She gets a temporary job at the grain station and works hard to become a permanent employee. Eventually, she is converted from a worker to an official cadre.

From the county grain station to the municipal grain bureau, then on to the provincial grain department, she rises steadily through the ranks.

"This time, the match is especially promising. He's an employee at the Friendship Store, a foreign-affairs establishment. He's handsome, tall, clever, and has few family responsibilities. It will definitely work out!"

Arranged by a leader at the municipal grain bureau, Chen Bai meets the "young man with such excellent qualifications."

"Zhou Dong, what are you doing here!"

Theme: Life goes on, and so must the struggle.
