From the Start, Teaching Qin Shi Huang About the Rule of Law [Livestream]

Wu Aihua, a doctoral student in Chinese legal history, makes educational videos for free. During a feverish spell of thesis writing, she decides to teach the public about ancient law. She never expected that mysterious forces would capture her very first livestream and project it onto a sky screen in the ancient world. Qin Shi Huang, Ying Zheng, watches the sky screen and slowly reads the title: “Rule the Country by Law: Were Qin Laws Really That Harsh?” Emperor Wen of Han, Liu Heng: The Huang-Lao school will always be the greatest! Li Shimin: Obviously, they were harsher than the laws of my Tang dynasty! Zhu Yuanzhang: What? Qin law had a clause like this? Excellent! Add it to my laws at once! As Wu Aihua makes more and more videos in her frenzy (crossed out) educational series… Emperor Huizong of Song: What’s that? Constitutional monarchy? Emperor Wu of Han: You can do that with inheritance law? Let’s make it happen! Eventually, whenever the emperors hear the video say, “Law adapts to social and economic development. The conditions in society at the time were…” they start reaching for their heart pills. You call that legal history? You’re exposing all our secrets!!! Ancient people: So that’s how you can exploit loopholes! Write it down, write it down! [The livestream room will eventually be handed over to the state.] P.S. Aihua mainly teaches legal history and discusses some representative cases from each era, including fictional cases based on ancient laws. P.P.S. Every livestream world becomes a separate branch timeline. There will be no butterfly effect on the main world, and the main world’s history cannot be changed. P.P.P.S. Once problems are discovered later on, the livestream room will be handed over to the state. [If you spot any historical facts the author has gotten wrong, please explain in the comments and, ideally, provide a source. Confirmed errors will be corrected and noted in the author’s comments. Please don’t use fan or anti-fan feelings as an excuse to vent.] [Controversial views that are currently debated in scholarship will be labeled. Some may be missed, but I’ll keep reviewing and updating earlier chapters.] [The female lead is somewhat of a hot-blooded patriot and will voice plenty of opinions. If that bothers you, please don’t read.] Theme: Spread the rule of law and build a country governed by law.
