Third-Rate Detective, Eldritch Survival

While pursuing an escaped serial killer, Lanny jumped alone into a sewer. When he woke up, he found himself aboard a strange train.

The train was heading for an unknown destination. After talking, the passengers discovered that just a second earlier, they had all been in places far apart from one another.

Fear immediately gripped everyone's heart.

Seeing this, Lanny spoke up. "My name is Lanny Helmode, and I'm a detective. Just call me Lanny."

A young man gave him a strange look after hearing this.

His words and actions revealed that he knew Lanny, but Lanny had no idea who he was.

Reality gave Lanny no chance to investigate.

The once peaceful, unremarkable world revealed its mad and bizarre nature to him. Ghouls, wandering spirits, evil spirits... Supernatural phenomena appeared frequently throughout the train, shattering Lanny's understanding of the world.

When Lanny found himself in trouble once again, the young man reached out to him with a smile. "You don't have to be wary of me, Lanny. In this world, I'm the person least likely to hurt you."

"All right..."

He shrugged, looking bored with himself. "Before that, you should take a look at the novel on your right. Afterward, you'll find that its protagonist is absurdly similar to you."

Grotesque, deformed monsters, decayed and antiquated dogma, madly murmuring gods...

The world is forever steeped in chaos and madness.

A false history conceals the bloodshed; a shattered future buries hope. People today know their fate, yet have no way to change it.

[We have long known that the future is beyond saving and the past is set in stone. Even so, we are still willing to give everything for humanity as a whole, in the hope of winning even the slightest chance to alter humanity's fate.

The only lesson humanity can learn from destruction is to do everything in its power to prevent it.

- Investigators' Declaration]

Thus countless investigators, like moths flying into a flame, wandered through the chaotic and mad past and present, trying to find humanity one last chance to survive. Tragically, almost all of them met a frenzied end.

Yizeer had thought his fate would be no different from theirs, until he found a blue-eyed detective on the train.

The mystery novelist murmured, "He's not my detective. My detective has gray eyes. But..."

"That doesn't stop me from helping him get home."
