Listening to Autumn's Whiteness

Yao Qiu has mild social anxiety.

Recently, she's fallen for Liang Xubai, the man who sells flowers at the struggling shop across the street.

Every afternoon at exactly three, Yao Qiu shows up at the flower shop to buy a big bunch of rosemary, just so she can say one more thing to Liang Xubai.

2.

Yao Qiu unexpectedly learns that Liang Xubai is in dire financial straits.

That night, she counts her savings. The next day, she works up the courage to go to the flower shop and decides to confess to Liang Xubai.

3.

This is the seventh year of Liang Xubai's marriage.

It is also the second year his wife has forgotten him.

On an utterly ordinary afternoon, he puts his wife's favorite rosemary in the most prominent window of the flower shop, as he always does, and waits quietly for her to arrive.

At last, the wind chime rings.

Yao Qiu pushes open the door and shyly greets him, her eyes darting away.

Liang Xubai hands her the wrapped rosemary with a smile. "Miss Yao, your flowers."

After taking them, Yao Qiu lingers. Blushing, she confesses, "I-I like you. Would you go out with me?"

As soon as she finishes, she hurriedly blurts out, "I'll come back tomorrow," and turns to flee, but he catches her by the wrist.

"Why are you running?"

Liang Xubai pulls her into his arms, takes the matching proposal ring from his necklace, and slips one onto Yao Qiu's ring finger. Softly, he says, "I've been waiting for you all this time."
