Daphne Gordon, formerly a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, had a rank and benefits second only to then-Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury and Level 9 agent Maria Hill.

After the invasion of Titan and the final battle, thirty-year-old Daphne resigned and ran back to her homeland of Great Britain to enjoy her retirement.

In the eyes of this cold man, a distinguished record of service couldn't compete with the doctorate in nutrition she earned for a single mission. He put her ability to infiltrate a drug lord's hideout alone to use tracking and spying on his own younger brother. And in his eyes, Daphne herself might have been nothing more than a somewhat useful goldfish.

But wherever you lie flat, you're still lying flat, right? She never slacked off at work, and never held back when it was time to slack off. If she served her BOSS well, Daphne was sure she had a bright future ahead of her.

Until the source of that bright future made her an offer, asking Daphne to accompany him to a family dinner and help him deal with his parents. Having gone through the seven-year itch and now suffering from office-romance PTSD, Miss Daphne Gordon's heart gave a lurch.

She thought it was a bad idea.

And Mycroft clasped her hand with a tender look. "I think it's a good idea."

My first Sherlock fanfic, and it has plenty of shortcomings. This isn't a long story, and updates will be irregular. I might make major revisions later. I won't abandon it. *One final warning about a potentially unexpected plot point: The heroine's ex is Captain America, and Captain America stayed in the past. This isn't Captain America bashing. When I wrote the first chapter, I was really into this melodramatic setup and impulsively worked it into the story... This has very little Marvel content and is only set against that background.
