A quick update: I've decided to unlock this novel.
When I first started writing it, I rewrote it many times before arriving at a version I was relatively happy with. But the further I got, the more the flaws caused by not being completely satisfied with it from the beginning began to show. I gradually lost control of where the story was going.
I had to take two days off this week because I was busy with real-life matters. When I picked the story back up, I noticed a lot of problems I hadn't seen while rushing to update. Most importantly, what I'm writing now is no longer what I originally wanted to express.
I don't want to give you a story that even I can't be satisfied with, nor do I want to write something that strays from my original design and ideas. So I won't be continuing this novel. In accordance with the site's rules, it will be unlocked and refunded after three months. If you haven't subscribed yet, please don't subscribe.
Over the six months from when I started stockpiling chapters in March to the serial's run so far, my personal writing approach has changed somewhat. For now, I'll focus on practicing and getting used to my new style. My next novel will probably come out after the Lunar New Year next year. I'll spend this time working hard so that, when I start my next story, I can give you something that I'm at least satisfied with myself.
For now, the next story will be about a mermaid. The other works I'm collecting advance reservations for are undecided.
I'm very grateful to all the readers who've supported me along the way. I'm truly sorry I can't give you an ending. I have a fairly complete outline, and if anyone wants to read it, I can post it.
"The Mermaid Who Was Kept in Captivity After Entering the Prophecy": Nonhuman mermaid/ancient god bottom x S-rank mutated rich and handsome man/divinely favored top
The land has been contaminated by an unknown plague, causing creatures to mutate and monsters to run rampant. Ancient gods have fallen, and disasters come one after another.
A massive tsunami is about to swallow the land, while the cracked valleys teem with demons that devour life.
The mermaid Li En sits on a seaside rock, comparing the scene before him with the descriptions in the Book of Prophecies.
So the Book of Prophecies really was telling the truth.
What was he supposed to do now?
Li En turns around, ready to head ashore, when a huge net drops from the sky and scoops him up.
*
Surrounded by a group of humans, Li En doesn't dare move.
In his eyes, humans are small, fragile, and quick to die.
But in the humans' eyes, mermaids are gorgeous, delicate, prone to depression, and expensive.
Li En and the humans stare at each other, wide-eyed, and nobody dares move.
Until someone suggests, "How about... giving him to the boss?"
And so Li En gets a deluxe, three-meter-tall aquarium, plus a group of fragile humans who gather around him every day to put on shows and keep him entertained.
Li En tilts his head and points at one of them. "You. Do that thing you just did again."
*
When Song Xinian returns from a mission, he finds a massive aquarium in his home, along with a mermaid monster who's widely regarded as a pretty face with no substance.
His teammates are trying to keep the mermaid from dying of depression by "performing a ritual" in front of the aquarium.
He sends the useless bunch of them packing with a dark expression, then sees the mermaid resting his chin in his hands and gazing at him from atop the aquarium.
"Are you here to offer me a sacrificial ritual too?"
*
Li En discovers that the humans in this world aren't as fragile as the ones in his memories. They also seem to love performing sacrificial rites for him, helping him recover his strength at an astonishing rate.
The only problem is that these humans seem a little too protective of him. They even prepare delicate raw fish sashimi for him, but the portions are tiny. So he gets hungry and sneaks out in the middle of the night to gnaw on his spoils.
One time, he was crunching on a monster's bones, his face smeared with blood, when the storehouse door opened.
Song Xinian stood outside and asked, at a loss, "Are... are your intestines okay?"
Li En: What kind of question is that?
TIPS:
1. Nonhuman mermaid/ancient god bottom x S-rank mutated rich and handsome man/divine retainer top, 1v1. In terms of strength, they're still a power couple.
2. The bottom is a beautiful nonhuman being with a sweet-on-the-outside, dark-on-the-inside personality and a completely different set of common sense. He's an antique who's tens of thousands of years old, with an overwhelmingly powerful golden finger and a cheat-level character setup.
3. A hodgepodge of pseudo-Western fantasy and an alternate-world evolution apocalypse, featuring myths I made up and references to them. Don't overanalyze it; just go along with my nonsense.
Completed works: "The Chief Guide Turned into a Cat", "I Became a Rabbit and Conquered the Whole Interstellar World"
