Xie Anzhou and Chu Yuehe reunite on the edge of an uninhabited region of Tibet.
The girl in his memories rides up on a roaring motorcycle. Her black windbreaker is spattered with mud, and her loose cotton trousers are full of folds. Her long, dark-red hair is coiled at the back of her head. Beneath her helmet, he catches a glimpse of vivid red lips. Her whole bearing is wild and untamable, like a jaguar.
She takes in the group of stranded researchers and, amused, picks him out of the crowd with pinpoint accuracy. “Well, well. Isn't that Anzhou?”
Meeting her gaze, Xie Anzhou looks back at her, squinting against the sun behind her, which is nearly blinding him.
He remembers someone once asking him, “How could you fall for a girl as hard to handle as Chu Yuehe?”
He'd answered easily, “I like wild girls. I like a challenge.”
Five years later, he discovers that he still feels the same.
Chu Yuehe and Xie Anzhou grew up together as childhood sweethearts. She thought she knew him better than anyone.
Xie Anzhou was always disobedient, troublesome, and mischievous. His imagination ran wild, and just hearing his name made people grit their teeth.
But Chu Yuehe knew he was a little fool: innocent, naive, and easy to trick.
When she was seven, Chu Yuehe's mother made her stand outside as punishment. Xie Anzhou sent his little gang away, gave her his Ultraman, and bent down to tell her jokes to cheer her up. Her mother chased him for three whole streets, thinking he was a bad kid who'd bullied her.
At seventeen, Xie Anzhou stood before her in his school uniform, full of youthful spirit, tall and long-legged. Smiling, he said, “Ahe, I'm going to do what I love.” Then he became a folk culture journalist, vanishing for years at a time.
At twenty-five, they meet again. Prayer flags flutter in the wind outside the window. The beauty mark by his eye is faint, and he asks slowly around his cigarette, “You were planning to run off after sleeping with me?”
Chu Yuehe, who really did want to slip away after sleeping with him: ...
Wild, untamable travel blogger × refined but depraved folk culture journalist
A woman with no interest in love who pursues freedom × a man with a hundred and eight schemes
