After Jiang Zhaonan ran away from home at eighteen, she squatted by the roadside, licking an ice cream in utter bewilderment.
Halfway through her ice cream, Lu Fang, her classmate who was always irresponsible and content to muddle through life, picked her up and took her home.
The young man was tall and long-legged, with beautifully defined muscles and skin that practically glowed. When he smiled, there was an indescribable air of carefree indolence about him. Jiang Zhaonan found him easy on the eyes, so she mooched off him for a whole year, eating his cooking until she was finally satisfied and left.
Before she went, she thoughtfully left him a large sum of money to show her gratitude for taking her in.

Lu Fang had been abandoned in A City by his father from a young age. No matter how recklessly he behaved, money was just about the only thing he had.
He'd always found life dull and spent his days just getting by, until one day he took pity on Jiang Zhaonan and picked her up from the roadside.
Jiang Zhaonan was fussy. She wouldn't eat this or that, wouldn't use this or that, and yet she had strong opinions and a whole set of her own twisted logic. She was one incredibly clever little menace.
For her, he learned to cook and do housework, learned how to take good care of someone, and learned to rein in his temper and coax her. He even forced himself to watch an entire educational TV series called How to Get Along with Genius Children Aged 3-6 and put everything he learned into practice.
After a year of this, he suddenly thought that taking care of her forever might be rather nice.
But Jiang Zhaonan didn't feel the same. To her, Lu Fang was just a passerby in her long life. She was destined to pursue the halls of knowledge she longed for, so she left without a trace of reluctance, leaving Lu Fang with nothing but an empty room.

After Jiang Zhaonan left, Lu Fang called her an ungrateful wretch in his heart a thousand times over and tried to get used to life without her.
When his friends asked, he would only reply coolly, "How deep could the bond between classmates who spent a year together really be?"
He wanted to preserve a little dignity.
He did a good job. No one noticed anything was wrong, so well that even he thought he had buried their entanglement deep in his heart.
But one night, when a call from someone he knew came through on a phone that hadn't rung in years, he couldn't voice the questions he'd repeated in his heart a thousand times. The person on the other end said nothing, but his voice trembled, and there was only one thought in his mind:
