Chen Chuli had always had everything go her way. She was doted on and cherished by her elders, who placed great hopes in her, and her life was almost entirely under her control.
Then a memory suddenly appeared in her mind, and she realized she was living in an old-fashioned angst novel, where she was the vicious female supporting character.
As it happened, the male lead of the book was her current husband, Song Miheng, the head of the Song family with whom she had a marriage of convenience and no real affection.
Later in the story, the resilient, ambitious, lucky-white-lotus heroine would prove enormously useful on several major Song family projects. Beautiful, kindhearted, and capable, she would gradually catch his attention, make the cold and refined Mr. Song fall for her, and give him his first taste of love.
So he would decide to divorce Chen Chuli, with whom he had no real emotional foundation to begin with.
Out of jealousy, Chen Chuli would repeatedly go after the heroine, making a fool of herself and turning Song Miheng against her. He would target the businesses she controlled, and eventually the two would have a public falling-out that ended in an ugly scene.
After reading the whole story, Chen Chuli had only two thoughts:
1. Song Miheng usually looks like a perfect mannequin. Who knew he was such a lovesick lunatic? I need to get divorced, fast.
2. Is something wrong with the version of me in the book? Why wouldn't she recruit this incredible lucky charm who makes businesses soar, instead of letting her hand Song Miheng money?
Song Miheng and Chen Chuli had been childhood friends. Both were outstanding, but Chen Chuli was always competing with him and never gave him the time of day. Everyone who knew them thought they couldn't stand each other.
So no one knew that Song Miheng had been secretly in love with her for a very long time. He couldn't help following her with his eyes, watching her shine.
Their marriage contract was something Song Miheng had secretly asked for. He knew that Chen Chuli valued her family's business above all else, and that a marriage between their families would be the best choice for her.
On their wedding night, Song Miheng learned that they were living in a book. He was the vicious male supporting character who had secretly loved Chen Chuli and forced them together.
Three years later, Chen Chuli would suddenly wake up, treat him like a stranger, and ask for a divorce before finding her true love.
He would also make life difficult for the man she loved out of jealousy, enraging Chen Chuli. She would then go after his company and family, and the two would end things on terrible terms, never speaking again.
The plot was too ridiculous. After sitting alone all night, Song Miheng chose to forget about it. He didn't believe he couldn't change his fate in three years.
But no matter how hard Song Miheng tried, the day still came.
Sitting in his office, his face pale, he watched Chen Chuli place the divorce papers in front of him.
He refused to sign.
After Chen Chuli woke up to the truth, she felt that everything was under control. Her only problem was that Song Miheng probably wouldn't agree to a divorce because their financial interests were too tangled to separate, and the heroine hadn't appeared yet.
So she decided to live apart from him for the time being and, before he caught on, snatch up several major projects he was supposed to handle in the future, making a fortune.
Even when things were going well, she never forgot to go home and taunt Song Miheng, urging him to hurry up with the divorce.
But the more often she went home, the more she realized something was wrong.
Then one day, Song Miheng got drunk. The man whose emotions were usually as steady as an AI looked utterly vulnerable and broken. He stared at her, and tears slowly rolled down his face.
In a low voice, he said, "Do I really disgust you that much? Are you in such a hurry to dump me and find your true love? Keep dreaming."
Chen Chuli: ?
It took her a long time to finally understand.
Wait, were they even following the same script?
* The male lead has no prior sexual experience. The heroine is adored by many men and has ex-boyfriends. All the men who have been involved with her have no prior sexual experience, and the marriage will definitely end in divorce.
* The male characters generally suffer a lot. Male-lead fans, don't read. Comments sympathizing with the male characters and insulting the female character will be deleted.
* Don't insult female characters indiscriminately (all female characters, not just the heroine, whether good or evil). If you do, the author will come back to life and start acting crazy.
Theme: Those who work hard at their careers are the ones who succeed
