Jiang Zhizhu blinked and found herself in a cultivation world, summoned by the Heavenly Dao to save its chosen ones.
Each chosen one was a once-in-a-generation prodigy with extraordinary talent. They should have had smooth, successful lives and become the pillars of this world. But with evil fiends from beyond the realm invading, their fortune had declined, plunging them into crisis and toward ruinous fates:
The future peerless sword prodigy, dazzling in talent, would be envied and betrayed by his fellow disciples. With his meridians destroyed, he would practice demonic arts for revenge and become the greatest villain native to this world.
The future Red-Robed Cult Master, trapped by love, would marry into a mortal dynasty. When the fiends from beyond the realm invaded, she would be powerless to resist and take her own life outside the city.
The future master of the Chess Sect, with a mind so keen it seemed demonic and a brilliance in every respect, would nonetheless have all his schemes thwarted at the final moment. Consumed by anger, he would die of a fit of rage.
There was also the future Azure Lotus Fairy, compassionate as a bodhisattva, who would be harmed by the refugees she saved; the future Valley Master of Medicine King Valley, eccentric and taciturn, who would provoke a powerful cultivator into ambushing him; the future master weapon smith, pure-hearted and betrayed by his closest friend; and the future overlord of the Blade Sect, too unyielding to bend, who would be surrounded by petty foes and shattered like jade on Kunlun.
Jiang Zhizhu watched one tragic scene after another unfold, as if flipping through a picture book of heaven's favored geniuses meeting their ends. Right now, though, they were all just kids in their teens. There was still time to change everything.
Jiang Zhizhu: "That really is tragic, but why did you pick me?"
Heavenly Dao: "You are full of vitality and blessed with deep fortune that benefits those around you. Besides, you have a knack for teaching. I can't be mistaken."
Jiang Zhizhu: "...Let me introduce myself."
"I'm an undergraduate studying Animal Science at the College of Agriculture, class of 2025. I'm a senior doing an internship, and I manage 2,000 pigs."
"I'm really good at raising pigs, but chosen ones... aren't the same as pigs, are they?"
"I really only know how to raise pigs!"
Heavenly Dao: "...Just give it a try. If you succeed, I will surely help your world resist the fiends in the future."
Once she'd embarked on this path, there was no turning back. She was already here, and she couldn't go home anyway.
Clutching the life-saving sword the Heavenly Dao had given her, Jiang Zhizhu headed anxiously for Mount Tianshen.
Raising chosen ones must cost a fortune, right? There weren't even any businesses on Mount Tianshen. Maybe she should raise something else first and get some practice.
She went down the mountain and brought back a pen of chickens, along with a sword cultivator she'd picked up on the way.
Then she went down again and herded back a few pigs, along with a red-robed female cultivator she'd picked up.
Then she went down once more and led back a few cows, along with a fortune-teller she'd picked up.
Peerless Sword Cultivator: "Scheming against each other is no match for helping Master feed the chickens."
Red-Robed Fairy: "Huh? You like me? Then will you help me feed the pigs?"
Chess Sect's Holy Son: "Who cares if I can't calculate the Heavenly Dao? I just need to figure out when Master's cows will give birth."
Jiang Zhizhu, pleased: "I knew raising chosen ones couldn't be harder than raising pigs."
Heavenly Dao: "..."
Reader's notes:
1. There is a male lead: he is that sword.
2. Slice of life, lighthearted, with my brand of ridiculous humor. The female lead barely fights (she's too slow to draw her sword, so she never gets the chance).
Theme: Keep your feet on the ground and defy fate.
