I Work Part-Time in the Underworld

[My new novel, "A Human-Shaped Ability User from Teyvat," is next door. The blurb is below. Please add it to your reading list!]

After Xia Tao was knocked into the River of Forgetfulness, a bug in the underworld sent her to a world of anime. She thought she was in for a hot-blooded sports series, but it turned out to be a fantasy series about ghosts and monsters.

Ghost-fearing Xia Tao: "I want to go home qaq!!!"

King Yama: "Not a chance!"

The glamorous young master never believed in the supernatural. That is, until the school festival, when he entered the haunted maze run by the Paranormal Society to search for a missing student and witnessed a normally low-key underclassman subdue a rampaging evil spirit.

Nanase Momona, student by day and the underworld's official Onmyoji by night: "Senior Atobe, I'm a real pro, and my prices are fair. For you, I can even give you a one percent discount, so please take a look at this bill!"

Atobe: "..."

(Everything in this story is fictional, and the underworld is different from traditional depictions. Please don't overthink it.)

The story of Nanase Momona, whose combat ability against ghosts and monsters is second to none, and Uncle Atobe.

Blurb for the new novel, "A Human-Shaped Ability User from Teyvat"

The Port Mafia recently gained a new member.

She had an ability similar to the boss's and was therefore given special attention.

But clearly, this new candidate executive was even more mischievous than the boss.

The boss only acted out scenes with one humanoid ability, while this lady acted out scenes with more than a dozen of her own humanoid abilities every day.

"Klee! You can't take other people's treasure! At least don't bring it home... It's going to explode! Why are there eight-armed bombs hidden everywhere in this world?!"

"Big Sister Ningguang, I'm broke and hungry. Please take me in."

"Ei, stop! Put down that cleaver and stay out of the kitchen!"

Not only did she act out scenes with her abilities, but her abilities also acted out scenes with one another.

Zhongli: "The ornamentation on this Flower-God Cup is finely and exquisitely crafted. The body is thin, the shape peerless, and it is a fine piece indeed. Shopkeeper, I'll take it... Put the bill under the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor in Chinatown."

Hu Tao: "Consultant! Explain why the bill is so high this month! Has the tab from just one place in Mihama Town gotten too expensive for you to afford?"

Venti: "Diona, give me another special drink, please? Pretty please?"

Diona: "You can't drink any more, you drunken poet! You're not that old, but you already act like a terrible adult. Hmph! Someday, I'm going to destroy Yokohama's liquor industry!"

A certain gravity manipulator who loves alcohol: "!?"

"I'm Faruzan, a scholar from the Theory School of Tokyo Jujutsu High. I'm preparing for an on-campus debate with the other five schools. This time, the topic is comparing the efficiency of different ways to use cursed spirits. You know, the number of cursed spirits in this country can't keep up with how many our school uses, so we settle the allocation through debate."

At first, they thought it was a chuunibyou girl's private game.

Later, when her abilities were rewritten into reality, they finally understood: this was the girl's salvation of herself.

A grand and absurd act of self-rescue.

She asked the book, "Why are you helping me? Why let my ability users become real through the plausibility of their existence?"

The book replied, "They are stars without a night sky, and we are a night sky without stars."
