Rain Tonight

One month after their wedding.

Liang Shuyue wrapped up her case and returned home from the procuratorate to the new house she shared with Zhou Yanchuan.

The house was pitch-black when she arrived, and Zhou Yanchuan wasn't home.

Liang Shuyue opened her phone and saw that their chat history still ended on the day they registered their marriage. Zhou Yanchuan had sent her a message:

[It's going to rain tonight. Should I come pick you up?]

She had been so busy with work that she forgot to reply.

Seeing the sky darken outside and remembering that she and her husband had barely connected at all during their first month of marriage, Liang Shuyue finally put on her coat and decided to pick Zhou Yanchuan up from the air force base.

Before leaving, she sent him a message.

But when she arrived at the air force base, he was nowhere to be seen, so Liang Shuyue had to grab an umbrella and get out of the car.

As she approached the gate, she spotted two tall figures standing there. Going on instinct, she stopped in front of the more handsome one and said:

"Hello, I'm looking for Zhou Yanchuan. I'm his wife."

Beneath the rain, the handsome, roguish-looking man in front of her stiffened.

Then he narrowed his eyes and practically ground out the words:

"Liang Shuyue, you can't even remember what your own husband looks like?"

Zhou Yanchuan had a little wooden box he treasured dearly.

One day, while he was away at work, Liang Shuyue opened it to take a look.

Inside, along with Zhou Yanchuan's military medals, was an old, yellowing photograph.

The girl in the photo wore a school uniform, her hair tied in a high ponytail, her face still youthful.

It was seventeen-year-old Liang Shuyue.

"From now on, the moonlight shines on me alone."
