In the ninth year of her secret love for He Tu, Shu Jia married him.

On the day they registered their marriage, He Tu rushed off overseas for work. Before leaving, he told her coolly:

"We didn't marry for love, so there's no need to fulfill the duties of a married couple. I'm usually overseas, so you don't need to keep me informed about things at home. Make your own decisions. As for the wedding, we'll talk when I get back."

For the entire year after their marriage, He Tu stayed busy with his diplomatic work and never came home again.

Later, a coup broke out in Nieljin, and the embassy began evacuating citizens. Chaos reigned. Yet He Tu remained composed in front of the cameras, his voice steady as he reassured the people.

She had thought she would never see He Tu look startled in her entire life.

Until she was tracking an endangered bird abroad and found herself in mortal danger. Just before she lost consciousness, she saw He Tu, usually so calm and self-possessed, running toward her in a panic.

One month into their marriage.

After finishing her case, Liang Shu Yue left the prosecutor's office and returned to the new home she shared with Zhou Yan Chuan.

When she got home, the house was pitch-black, and Zhou Yan Chuan wasn't there.

Liang Shu Yue opened her phone and saw that their chat history still ended on the day they registered their marriage.

That day, Zhou Yan Chuan had sent her a message: [It's going to rain tonight. Want me to pick you up?]

But she had been so busy with work that she'd forgotten to reply.

Looking at the darkening sky outside, Liang Shu Yue thought about how she and her husband hadn't made time for each other at all during their first month of marriage. In the end, she put on her coat and decided to pick Zhou Yan Chuan up from the air force base.

Before leaving, she sent Zhou Yan Chuan a message.

But when she arrived at the air force base, he was nowhere to be seen, so Liang Shu Yue had to grab an umbrella and get out of the car.

As she approached the base gate, she saw two tall figures standing there. Following her instincts, she stopped in front of the more handsome one.

"Hello, I'm looking for Zhou Yan Chuan. I'm his wife."

Under the curtain of rain, the handsome, roguish man in front of her paused.

Then he narrowed his eyes and said through gritted teeth:

"Liang Shu Yue, you can't even remember what your own husband looks like?"

Zhou Yan Chuan had a wooden box he treasured dearly.

One day, while he was away at work, Liang Shu Yue opened it to take a look.

Inside, along with Zhou Yan Chuan's military medals, was an old, yellowed photograph.

The girl in the photo wore a school uniform and had her hair tied in a high ponytail. Her face was still youthful.

It was Liang Shu Yue at seventeen.
