As the senior disciple of the Wanling Sect, Mu Qingzhou refused to hold back in the sect's competition.
After winning first place, she was schemed against by the sect leader's precious son and blown to pieces.
When she landed, she had become a rookie policewoman, an orphan gravely injured in a bombing.
Her supervisor ordered her to fake her death, assume a new identity, and investigate the clues in secret.
She had two important tasks.
First, go undercover and find the mastermind behind the case.
Second, find a way back and kill the sect leader's precious son.
Three months later, a fish stall hired a fishmonger girl.
She was ruthless and quiet, and she could gut fish quickly and well.
The customers were happy, and so were the cats and dogs nearby who mooched food and drink.
Before long, people noticed something odd about the fishmonger girl.
No matter who tried to set her up with someone, she'd say she was busy.
But whenever she had free time, she'd hang out in the alley behind the fish stall, meowing and barking with a bunch of cats and dogs. Nobody knew what they were talking about.
What else would they be talking about? Of course, putting the clues together.
Mu Qingzhou could not only understand what the cats and dogs were saying,
she could also communicate freely with any flower, bird, fish, insect, table, or chair that had gained a spirit.
She hadn't expected her undercover work to go so well, or her fishmongering to become so famous, drawing in plenty of food-review bloggers.
Luckily, she'd worn a mask from the start, and her bangs were long enough to cover her eyes, so she didn't have to worry about cameras shoved in her face.
Soon the case was solved.
Mu Qingzhou thought she could finally take off her mask,
but her supervisor sent her a new case: stay undercover and take down a major bigwig, and he'd nominate her for a first-class merit award.
With no other choice, Mu Qingzhou put her mask back on and continued sharpening her knife over the fish.
One day, a chubby, round-faced koi in an ornamental fish tank spoke up.
"Human, yesterday, after an armored catfish pricked your finger, a middle-aged couple picked up the tissue you used to wipe away the blood."
What?
The knife in Mu Qingzhou's hand paused.
She stared at the koi that had gained a spirit and asked, "What did they look like?"
The koi hurriedly swished its tail. "The woman wore a trench coat and had red eyes. The man wore a tracksuit and had a stern expression."
Mu Qingzhou immediately sent the Woof-Woof Squad and the Meow-Meow Squad to track them down.
A week later, she spotted the couple outside a DNA testing center.
Clutching the freshly issued test report, they embraced and wept. "Thank goodness, we've found our precious daughter."
Mu Qingzhou: ??? Me?
Later, she stared blankly at the grand detached house. "I thought I was an orphan?"
