Want to Ascend? Fall in Love First

No one in the cultivation world has ascended in tens of thousands of years.

According to legend, before ascending, one must endure a deadly tribulation set by the Heavenly Dao. No one knows what this tribulation entails, but over the past ten thousand years, those who faced it either died or saw their Dao hearts shatter.

It wasn't that no prodigies had tried to overcome the tribulation and ascend. Not one succeeded. Even the few who survived were driven mad.

No one knew what they had gone through. People only knew that when they awoke, their faces were deathly pale, their foreheads slick with cold sweat, and they vomited blood as though they were about to bring up their very lungs and liver. The sight terrified many, and after that, no one dared try to ascend again.

The entire cultivation world speculated about the nature of the deadly tribulation, but no one ever found an answer.

Because only the handful who had faced it knew... that the deadly tribulation was actually a tribulation of love.

Within the tribulation was a woman in flowing green robes, crouched beside a mountain. Like a supernatural creature, she would stop at nothing to tempt people into falling in love with her.

Once they were hopelessly in love, she would smile sweetly and say, “Why don't you kill me? Right now.”

Her voice was soft and coquettish as she calmly placed a dagger in their hands. Then she would open her clothes, bare her heart, and part her red lips, as if beckoning them closer.

“Kill me, and you can ascend.”
