On graduation day, Kokonotsu Gai shook his hand and said goodbye. As he left, he told him, "Treasure your friends. After all, they're destined to..." Rei Furuya, still a police academy student, didn't understand.
Not until the apartment exploded in his dream, blood splattered across the rooftop, the Ferris wheel burned, the screech of brakes came too late, and another version of himself silently paid his respects at a gravestone.
Could the world you lived in be nothing more than a dream?
As an officer in the Public Security Bureau, Rei Furuya understood.
What would you do? Seven years later, Kokonotsu Gai looked exactly the same.
"I want them to be real, and to live without bloodshed." Rei Furuya reached out and accepted access to the maintenance System. Time turned back, and he was granted a second chance.
DETECTIVE CONAN: THE PALE BLUE DOT, START
He walked willingly into the trap he knew was waiting for him, reaching out to seize that glimmer of hope.
"This is the gravest and most foolish sin I've ever committed."
1) The story is primarily told from Rei Furuya's perspective. The synopsis only hints at a story within a story within a story, and includes my own original take on science fiction.
2) The protagonist, Gai, dies at the end. Everyone else gets a happy-ending rescue. No spoilers.
