The Prime Minister’s Daughter and the Marquis’s Fool

An alternate ancient setting, the story of Qu Zhao, the founding empress, and her empress.

A volatile, supposedly foolish heroine and the gentle daughter of the Chancellor

She runs home when it rains. She’s not stupid.

Those were the first words the Chancellor’s daughter said about the young lady of the Marquis’s household.

When the Marquis’s wife was pregnant, Emperor Tiansheng hinted that he wanted to form a marriage alliance with the Qu family. No matter whether the child was a boy or a girl, they would be married into the imperial family.

A boy would be made a prince consort, while a girl would marry the Crown Prince and become his Crown Princess.

But strange omens were appearing throughout the Tiansheng Empire, and rumors said the world was due for a great upheaval. The feudal lords and vassal states were beginning to stir.

When the Marquis’s daughter was born, three-year-old Qu Sheng went to the palace for the first time to meet the emperor. Everyone discovered that she was a simpleton.

Qu Sheng didn’t even know how to greet the emperor in the great hall. She slurred her words and kept demanding milk. Even after drinking it, she wasn’t satisfied. She lay on the floor of the hall and had a seizure, foaming at the mouth and leaving everyone dumbfounded with fright.

Riding in the carriage back to the estate, Qu Sheng lifted the curtain and gazed outside. She asked her mother nonchalantly,

“Whose daughter was the young lady who helped me just now?”

“Lin Xizhao, the Chancellor’s legitimate daughter.”

.

The Qu family had a simpleton for a daughter, so the Emperor of Tiansheng abandoned his plan to make her Crown Princess.

Qu Sheng attended every banquet. Some people treated her poorly because they thought she was stupid, and others threw things at her. She was always cheerful regardless.

The only one who doted on her was Lin Xizhao, the Chancellor’s daughter, because the simpleton liked her best.

Qu Sheng would protect her, respect her, and love her. When Lin Xizhao was bullied by her stepmother, Qu Sheng would kick the woman straight into the river.

Whenever Lin Xizhao cried, Qu Sheng would stay by her side all night. Anyone who bullied her would somehow meet with misfortune within three days.

Later, the simpleton climbed into Lin Xizhao’s bed, gently kissed her brow, and said to her in her silly way, “Sister, I want to marry you and make you my wife.”

Synopsis Two

Lin Xizhao, the Chancellor’s daughter, was clever from a young age and knew how to put people to good use. In her eyes, no one was useless; they simply hadn’t been put in the right position.

The Qu Sheng of later years was decisive and ruthless. To outsiders, she was eccentric, cruel, and merciless, but even she couldn’t escape becoming a “prisoner” under Lin Xizhao’s gentle care.

“My Sheng’er, you’re so adorable.” Only Lin Xizhao could say such a thing to someone who killed without blinking and was so willful and cruel.

Note: The heroine isn’t really stupid.

Upcoming novel: I’m Begging You to Break Off the Engagement

The myriad realms are home to a host of ancient demon beasts. The various clans reproduce and band together, hoping to withstand the cultivators who hunt them.

The ancient wolf clan rules the four corners of the world and chooses a mate from among the demon clans every hundred years.

The clans answer the call, vying to send their beautiful young beasts to marry into the wolf clan in hopes that its elders will help repair the Illusionary Spirit Array that protects them from cultivators.

The fox clan of Yunju Mountain is the wolf clan’s preferred choice of mate. Foxes are not only beautiful and delicate, but their offspring are also more likely to be wolves.

The fox clan of Yunju Mountain had produced only one red fox in nearly ten thousand years. Little Red Fox was the center of attention from the moment she was born. The clan originally intended to keep her among their own, but when cultivators attacked and the array’s power began to wane, the foxes had no choice but to send her to the wolves early for a political marriage, hoping to secure their protection.

The little fox Dongfang Kou was not yet a hundred years old and had a terrible temper. If anything displeased her, she could get so worked up that she’d faint. When she learned she was being sent to the wolf clan to be chosen by those big-tailed wolves, she made a fuss several times to no avail. Furious, she fled halfway there.

Shangguan Kou had never left Yunju Mountain before and soon lost her way in the myriad realms. Fortunately, she met a fellow white fox, She Yun, who rescued her. The two hit it off and began living together.

When the two mated and their children were born, Dongfang Kou stared at the long white tail on one cub’s true form, squinting hard in confusion as she looked at her wife. “Why does this child look so strange?”

She Yun lay in bed holding the other cub. Looking at the tail, which matched her own true form, she said, “Are you just too tired?” Then she flicked a finger and cast a spell.

Dongfang Kou rubbed her eyes. The next time the cub’s tail swished, it had turned into a white fox’s tail. Dongfang Kou immediately grinned foolishly. “Yes, yes, yes. I must have been seeing things.”

The wolf clan, where women hold authority, lives on Jing Mountain. She Yun, who had cultivated for a thousand years to reach the Void Refining stage, was the wolf clan’s Chief Guardian. After helping her sister’s child take the position of wolf clan leader, she suddenly vanished from the myriad realms.

Rumor had it that she had ascended, but no one knew where she had gone.

When the wolf clan fell into turmoil, She Yun returned. Her cultivation had reached the Great Ascension stage, a level no one could match. After dealing with the threat to the wolf clan, she returned to the loving den she shared with her little wife, only to find that both her wife and children were gone.

Dongfang Kou was dragged back by her family. When the fox clan saw the two little foxes at her side, they were completely at a loss.

The fox clan leader, her grandfather, beat his chest in frustration. “How are we supposed to explain this to the people on Jing Mountain?”

But just a few days later, the wolf clan came to their door, saying they had come to take the Chief Guardian’s wife, Dongfang Kou, back to the wolf clan.

When Dongfang Kou saw the wolf clan leader’s aunt, the “fellow fox” wife who had fussed over her, treated her with endless tenderness, and never once made her angry, she was so furious that she fainted on the spot.

When Dongfang Kou came to, She Yun was standing beside her bed with their two children. Her gentle face held a pitiful, moving look as she coaxed her, “The children are already so big. Why don’t we just make the best of things and stay together?”
