Nurturing the Soul

Blurb

The Wen family has a branch of bloodline designated by the Underworld as spirit wardens. As long as they capture enough souls, they can obtain a body that will never enter reincarnation.

Wen Xiang had only just turned fifteen when her father impatiently “sent” her out the door, telling her to fend for herself and not disturb the loving life he shared with his wife.

Wen Xiang pursed her lips, then went out to collect souls.

A few years later, the young woman changed a little more every day. She was even prettier than her mother had been at the same age. With a thousand-year-old soul in hand, she knocked on the door of her family home.

Wen Xiang: “Father, I got married.”

Her middle-aged father spat out his tea and coughed for a long while. With a look of feigned sorrow, he said, “The lovely daughter I raised has been taken away by some wild man just like that.”

Wen Xiang froze awkwardly. “Not a wild man.”

Her middle-aged father: “?”

Wen Xiang: “A, a wild woman... soul?”

The wild-woman soul, Leng Ji: “...”

Wen Xiang married a thousand-year-old soul as her wife, and nourished her with her own body.

.

Before meeting Wen Xiang, Leng Ji, a thousand-year-old soul, had spent hundreds of years alone in the Shading Canopy Lands.

No one could see her or hear her speak. Not only had she lost her memories, but her figure had also become a mere shadow, as if she were about to disappear from this world.

When she first met Wen Xiang, she felt that Wen Xiang was unlike anyone she had ever met, because Wen Xiang's body could provide the spiritual energy she needed.

For the sake of staying alive and finding her memories, she clung to Wen Xiang.

.

Day after day, Leng Ji stayed by Wen Xiang's side, helping her capture souls. At night, she leaned against Wen Xiang and drew on the spiritual energy that nourished her body. Then one day, her memories returned.

She remembered that before she left, her clanspeople had told her to reclaim the magical artifact belonging to their Wu clan and kill the reincarnation of the person who had imprisoned them.

And that person was Wen Xiang.

Their bond had been too deep in their previous lives. Even in this life, they could not escape their entanglement.

.

Happy ending and switch pairing. This story is entirely fictional, so please do not apply it to real life. Slow burn and sweet romance.
