The Anti-Scam Movie Star [Reborn]

There’s a story-within-a-story plot.

Bottom’s perspective:

Lin Fanxing is a B-list actor whose film is about to premiere. He’s on the verge of becoming famous when he dies in a car accident.

When he opens his eyes again, it’s two years earlier. He’s still a nobody, an obscure actor who gets by on his looks, and he’s secretly dating Qin Xin, a twenty-year-old award-winning actor.

But this actor boyfriend gives him the silent treatment, emotionally manipulates him, cheats on him, and never pays back the money he borrows.

In the end, Lin Fanxing asks to meet and break up. Qin Xin replies: “No need. Dating you was a disgrace to me.”

Given another chance at life, Lin Fanxing plans to stay far away from that bastard. But by a twist of fate, he ends up taking an ad job.

Since fate hasn’t abandoned me, Lin Fanxing, heartbroken and battered, decides to make Qin Xin feel disgraced once and for all.

Manager: “Go make sure Qin Xin knows your face!”

Lin Fanxing walks right up to Qin Xin and gives him a cold smile. “Hey, that’s my chair. Move.”

Manager: ???

Unexpectedly, Qin Xin looks up and flashes his little tiger teeth. “Brother Fanxing?”

Manager: !!!

From then on, Lin Fanxing lets his bratty side shine. When the award-winning actor serves himself food, he spins the lazy Susan. When the actor pours him water, he refuses to drink it. When the actor sings karaoke, he changes the song. He even demands a last-minute role in a film the actor is funding, and lands the second male lead.

On camera, Lin Fanxing wraps his arms around Qin Xin, their cheeks close together as they gaze into each other’s eyes and shed heartfelt tears.

Qin Xin, playing the younger brother, says, “Big brother, I’m here.”

Lin Fanxing looks moved, but inside he’s laughing wickedly as he puts his arm around the actor and cuddles up to him. Take that, you brat. Aren’t you dying of embarrassment?

Unexpectedly, six months later, a criminal who had impersonated Qin Xin to scam people out of money is arrested. The victims release their chat logs, AI videos, and audio recordings, and Lin Fanxing finds them strangely familiar.

Yeah, they’re exactly like the ones he had back then.

He got the wrong person and took revenge on the wrong guy.

Would quitting the entertainment industry tomorrow keep me safe? Lin Fanxing’s pupils tremble as he looks at the actor, who’s crouched at home mopping the floor.

Qin Xin seems to notice something. He sits beside him and grips both his wrists. “Brother Fanxing, where are you going?”

Top’s perspective:

Qin Xin developed a mental illness at eighteen. At eighteen, he fell in love with Lin Fanxing.

To everyone else, Fanxing was just Fanxing. To him, he was a galaxy of stars.

But Fanxing had never once looked at him. He only ever looked at his phone.

On the day he learned that Lin Fanxing had died, Qin Xin jumped from the thirty-fifth floor.

When he opened his eyes again, the stars were shining.

He didn’t want to miss his chance again. Like a venomous snake, he would coil around Fanxing until he “couldn’t breathe.”

Notes:

* Qin Xin is sweet on the outside and dark on the inside. There’s a huge difference between how he acts in public and in private.

* No real-life inspirations. This is entirely fictional, so please don’t identify real people in the comments.

* I’m not very good at writing stories about the entertainment industry, so please don’t take it too seriously.
