A Treacherous Minister Must Not Be Deceived

The Treacherous Official's Monologue: See that fool over there, bringing me tea and water, washing my face and combing my hair? He's mine. The emperor sent him to keep an eye on me, but then he lost his head and fell hopelessly in love with me. I lie to him, and he doesn't get mad. I hit him, and he doesn't get mad. I hold a knife to his throat, and he still asks if my hand hurts. Someone like him would get sold off if you left him in the street! I have no choice but to take him home and discipline him every night. See? I'm such a righteous, good person.

The Loyal Official's Monologue: See that handsome, smooth-talking man, who smiles at everyone else but glares at me, bristling and ready to whack me with a stool? He's mine. The emperor sent me to watch his every move, but this guy fell for me so hard he dared to defy the whole world! He stays up all night and makes medicine for me, takes a blade for me and holds an umbrella over me, makes my bed and tucks me in! He likes me, he adores me! Oh no, I almost forgot I was supposed to be watching him. Fine, I'll move into his house and keep an eye on him every moment from his bed. I'm so thorough and diligent, the emperor will be moved to tears. Like I said, I'm a loyal subject.

I know you're lying. So what? I have a brain and my own thoughts. I know for myself whether you're sincere with me. I don't need you, or any of you, pointing fingers and gossiping. You say I'm deluding myself? Here, take the knife and cut me down. If you can, I'll admit I was blind. Can't do it? Then get over here and kiss me already. What are you waiting for, an imperial decree?
