The man: “They’re blooming late this year. Get well soon, and next year I’ll take you outside the city to see the begonias.”

He seemed to say it casually, but the shou could see the affection hidden in that promise.

The shou suddenly burst out laughing, louder and louder.

If we could start over, you wouldn’t love me so much again?

The man’s words still rang in his ears.

The man asked, puzzled, “What is it?”

The shou shook his head and wiped away the tears of laughter as he looked toward the begonias. “It is a shame.”

What a shame that I’m the one who was reborn.
