In high school, Xu Yining was a quiet nobody who barely stood out.
By contrast, Xun Zheng made a splash during military training in his first year by sparring with the instructor. Handsome and good at basketball, he was the school's undisputed heartthrob.
Xu Yining sat by the window at the back of the classroom, where she could see Xun Zheng playing basketball on the court every day.
His spirited, commanding presence left a deep impression on her.
Her sketchbook was filled with pictures of Xun Zheng playing basketball.
Later,
Xun Zheng became her deskmate in a math tutoring class.
Xu Yining left one multiple-choice question blank on a placement test.
Xun Zheng quietly said, "Pick B."
Xu Yining filled it in, but when the test was returned, her answer had a big X through it.
Xun Zheng grinned. "I said pick B and you did. So if I asked you to be my girlfriend, would you?"
Trapped in a burning building and on the brink of death, Xu Yining regretted never having told Xun Zheng she liked him.
He came running toward her, fully suited up in his dark blue protective gear.
Even through the thick protective clothing, Xu Yining recognized him at once.
Losing control, she called his name through her tears: "Xun Zheng."
Xun Zheng bent down and carefully lifted her into his arms. "Don't be afraid. I'm here."
Xun Zheng thought their meeting at the fire was just a coincidence.
In truth, Xu Yining had come back especially for him.
But their reunion was nothing like the one she'd imagined.
She'd thought she'd show up looking polished and dazzling, leaving Xun Zheng with an unforgettable impression.
Instead, she was covered in soot inside a burning building, her life in constant danger.
Xu Yining was hospitalized after inhaling too much toxic gas, and Xun Zheng came to visit her.
She said she didn't know how to repay him for saving her life.
Xun Zheng joked, "Repay me by marrying me."
Later, Xu Yining drank too much at a classmate's birthday party.
Xun Zheng walked her home along the riverbank.
He took her hand and said, "There are too many people. I don't want you getting lost."
Xu Yining slipped her arm through his. "There are too many people. I don't want to get lost."

● Blurb for "More Than Just a Crush on You"
Everyone loves Wen Qiyu. He's handsome, smart, and the classic golden child every parent wishes they had.
Chi Yinyue likes Wen Qiyu too. From playing house as a child to walking down the aisle in a wedding dress, she's loved him for fifteen years.
When her parents couldn't make it to a parent-teacher meeting, Wen Qiyu went in their place.
Her deskmate tugged at her and whispered, "Chi Yinyue, your big brother is so handsome."
Chi Yinyue huffed. "He's not my big brother."
Wen Qiyu gently ruffled her hair. "If I'm not your big brother, then what am I?"
Chi Yinyue turned her head away without answering.
The two families went hiking together, and Chi Yinyue sprained her ankle.
Her father offered to carry her down the mountain, but Chi Yinyue gazed at Wen Qiyu.
Wen Qiyu knowingly crouched down. "Uncle, I'll carry her."
Later, Chi Yinyue stole alcohol from home and went out drinking because Wen Qiyu was supposed to go on a blind date.
Only Wen Qiyu found her. "Why are you crying?"
Chi Yinyue: "You're going on a blind date."
Wen Qiyu: "I didn't go."
Chi Yinyue: "Why not?"
Wen Qiyu: "Because a little girl keeps hiding whenever she gets upset, then drinks herself senseless and makes me worry."
Chi Yinyue pointed at his nose through her tears. "Wen Qiyu, I like you."
"I know."
She lowered her head and said without any confidence, "Wen Qiyu, you can't marry anyone else. If you do, I won't speak to you for the rest of my life."
"I won't."
"Wen Qiyu, I'm dizzy. Carry me home."
"All right." Instead of crouching down, Wen Qiyu picked her up and carried her slowly toward home.
Later, Chi Yinyue held a bouquet of flowers and married Wen Qiyu, the man she'd cherished in her heart for fifteen years.
Only then did she realize that her love had never been one-sided. They had been moving toward each other all along.
Later still, Wen Qiyu became a leader in his industry. During an interview, a reporter asked, "What's the thing you're most proud of in your life?"
Wen Qiyu replied, "I've kept every promise I made to my wife."
Premise: Love life, love the world.
