Later, Chu Baiyu killed his teacher and betrayed his principles, finally ascending the throne.

But every night he suffered from nightmares and a heart-wrenching pain, and he went mad, spending every day beside an empty coffin that held no body of Pei Yuchuan's.

On his birthday, Chu Baiyu drank himself into a stupor and began to hallucinate. He saw Pei Yuchuan walking toward him, safe and sound, his eyes filled with Chu Baiyu.

Ignoring all royal decorum, Chu Baiyu rushed forward and held the man tightly. His eyes bloodshot, he choked out his words in a plaintive sob: "I regret it. I regret it, Pei Yuchuan..."
