Rebirth, Married a Controlling Fulang

Xu He had been the foil to his second older sister since childhood.

His sister was fair-skinned, vivacious, and built for bearing children. She was the apple of the Xu family’s eye and the village beauty, with eligible young men lining up to marry her all the way from the village entrance to the far end of the hills.

He was sickly and sallow, a little brother from the Xu family who was unfit to be seen in public. His one talent was cooking, but he spent his days rushing from the stove to the fields, always covered in dust and grime, unnoticed by everyone.

The villagers gossiped over their meals about how the same parents could have two children so utterly different. With his sister as a comparison, they said, He-ge’er would surely have an even harder time finding a husband.

Yet plenty of young men came looking for Xu He.

But they only struck up a conversation with him to ask about his sister.

After years of this, Xu He had grown used to it.

Lately, though, even Zhang Fangyuan, the village layabout, had been trying to get information about her from him.

Xu He dodged him every which way, but still got cornered on his way home.

The man only said, “He-ge’er, your cooking smells amazing. It’d smell even better if you were my husband.”
