Why Is My Husband Like This?

Zheng was orphaned young and lived with his mother, the two of them depending on each other. Life was hard, and he grew up wild.

People in the village called him crude, overbearing, and uncouth behind his back.

He paid them no mind. All he could think about was getting a job at Anping Manor in the village.

He'd heard that Anping Manor belonged to the lord of the prefecture. With a job there, he wouldn't have to worry about food or drink.

That year, the manor's master was coming to stay and recuperate.

The manor was turned upside down preparing for his arrival, and Zheng managed to land a temporary cleaning job!

Determined to turn his temp job into a permanent one, Zheng worked especially hard. Even the fussy head housekeeper praised him and said she'd put in a good word with the steward.

Overjoyed, Zheng had a few too many drinks and, in a drunken haze, started boasting to a young man who also worked at the manor.

He praised the young man for being handsome,

long-legged, fair-skinned, and slim-waisted.

He said that once he had made a place for himself at the manor, he'd make sure to look after him.

The pure-looking, somewhat frail young man blushed at his flattery.

One thing led to another, and somehow they ended up in the same bed.

The next day, once the alcohol had worn off, Zheng saw the handsome young man sleeping beside him and felt his heart leap into his throat.

He made a snap decision, pulled on his pants, and ran.

Before he could even get out the door, the steward to the manor's master came in and caught him red-handed!

The old steward rolled his eyes and nearly fainted, pointing at Zheng's nose.

"You! You! You!"

"The young master is pure and noble, precious as gold, and you, a crude country boy, have ruined him!"

Zheng stared in bewilderment. The young man in bed leisurely woke up and looked at the one trying to flee, biting his lip reproachfully. "Brother, you weren't like this last night."
