A thin mist hung in the spring night air, dampening the eyes and brows.

She poured herself a cup of tea, then pushed open the carved redwood window and leaned against it to watch the rain.

The person in bed slept peacefully.

Dappled light flickered through the gauzy curtains and fell across his brow. His features were sharply defined, his brows deep-set, his nose high-bridged, and his pale, thin lips carried a hint of chill.

When those eyes opened, they were like an abyss with no bottom. One careless glance, and you would fall in, shattered beyond saving.
