A Ferocious Beast’s Diary of Raising Cubs

In a cluster of tribes ruled by ferocious beasts, they found a newborn cub. The cub had long, soft white fur, no claws or sharp teeth, and floppy ears that drooped at the sides of its head. Its pair of bright blue eyes gazed innocently at the figures before it. The One-Horned Lion King asked the other chiefs, “Whose is it?” The Ripper-Toothed Leopard looked thoroughly disgusted. “There’s no beast this weak in my tribe.” The Man-Eating Vulture narrowed its murky eyes. “It’s alive? I don’t take those.” The Bone Wolf came over to look it up and down, then turned away without interest. The Three-Eyed Python flicked its tongue and slithered closer. “I haven’t had lunch yet. How about…” Confronted by several savage beasts, the cub rolled onto its back, exposing its soft belly, and let out a babyish little cry. “Awoo~” After conferring with the Lion King, the chiefs reluctantly agreed to take turns looking after the cub until it came of age or found its own kind. And so the weak cub everyone had scorned began its difficult life among the ferocious beasts. Before long, however, the chiefs were at each other’s throats over who would get to raise the cub for good. The Three-Eyed Python had just gotten into a fight with the Man-Eating Vulture. “You bald idiot! A-Zai can’t even get a hot meal when he’s with you!” The Man-Eating Vulture fired back. “Wasn’t it you who taught A-Zai to swallow eggs whole? He nearly choked to death!” The Ripper-Toothed Leopard wasn’t about to back down. “Hah! A-Zai looks most like me.” The Bone Wolf came with his pack, ready to snatch the cub without a word. The One-Horned Lion King shielded the little white ball of fluff behind him. “Enough arguing.
