What Do I Do When the Character Bugs Out Again?

He gained human form too late. The apocalyptic novel had just ended when the World Will Administration recruited him as a trainee NPC. Yun Zhou is good-looking but doesn’t have many skills. His first assignment is to play an NPC in a book, with the character tags [the protagonist top’s first love][stubborn][aloof][frail][dies young]. The mission is simple. All he has to do is lie in a hospital bed every now and then, then die three months after marrying the protagonist top. As a newcomer, Yun Zhou can’t help feeling nervous. When he gets nervous, he wants to turn back into a mushroom and hide in a flowerpot. The System reassures him: “It’s fine, sweetie. These tags aren’t hard to play. If the protagonist top tries to sleep with you, just pretend you’re sick!” Yun Zhou takes another look at the protagonist top’s character tags: [gentle][patient][upright][understanding]... It looks like nothing should go wrong. So Yun Zhou starts the job. At first, everything goes smoothly, and no one realizes he’s a mushroom in human form. As the original story goes, Yun Zhou and the protagonist top get married. On their wedding night, Yun Zhou coughs so hard he can barely breathe and timidly says he doesn’t feel well. The protagonist top is as gentle and considerate as ever. He kneels beside the bed, strokes Yun Zhou’s pale, slender wrist, and smiles. “All right.” But less than two months into their marriage, Yun Zhou gradually notices that something is wrong. For example, the protagonist top sometimes loses control of his emotions, and his tags glitch: [gentle] turns into [violent], [patient] turns into [cruel]. But when he’s with Yun Zhou, they go back to normal. Most importantly, the lifespan shown on Yun Zhou’s status panel is slowly getting longer. The System can’t figure out what caused the glitch. Anxious and unsettled, Yun Zhou waits until the three months are up, then fakes his death and runs away. The NPC contract only lasts three months anyway. His fee has arrived, and the mission is complete. That night, Xi Lüxiu discovers Yun Zhou is missing. Looking at the lifeless body on the hospital bed, Xi Lüxiu’s eyes darken. “Where is he?” The System: “Searching with all available resources, ” Before long, Xi Lüxiu finds Yun Zhou. Yun Zhou has taken a new assignment, playing a monster NPC in an infinite-world instance. His job is to scare passing players and throw poisonous mushrooms at them.
