The Chief Secretary's Little Courtesan

The young master of the Tang family fell in love at first sight with a little courtesan on the Qinhuai River.

But the little courtesan smiled and asked him:

"I'm accomplished in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. I've studied the Four Books and Five Classics, and I can write examination essays, too. What can you do, Young Master Tang? Apart from having a better background, how are you better than me?"

Tang Yueying was so devastated that he shut himself away and studied hard for five years. At last, he passed the imperial exam with a second-class degree and was granted the title of Presented Scholar, entering the Hanlin Academy. He even announced that he would find that impertinent little courtesan from years ago and challenge her to a contest in writing exam essays.

The little courtesan: "..."

Heaven knows, back then it was the Master of the Tang family who paid her twenty taels of silver to put Tang Yueying down so he'd give up. Now he's coming after her to settle the score. Is it too late to board a ship and sail overseas tonight?

Years later, everyone at court knows that the young madam of the Chief Minister's household is not only exceptionally talented, but writes better examination essays than the Chief Minister himself.

Qin Hansha: Why do these scoundrels have to bring up what they know will upset me?!

Chief Minister Tang takes Qin Hansha's hand and comforts her:

"There, there. I'll teach you a new way to begin an essay. I guarantee everyone will praise you..."

Warnings:

1. Don't expect historical accuracy. The setting is very loose.

2. I'm writing this because I couldn't find the kind of story I wanted. The female lead isn't a virgin, but the male lead is. If that's not for you, please don't read. Thanks for understanding.
