A taciturn, long-suffering, vengeful ghost gong x a quick-witted, forthright young master shou who only pretends to be refined

Wu Shaoyan is handsome and well-dressed. Though he was raised in luxury, he has never been temperamental and treats everyone with a warm, gracious manner.
As a result, both his teachers and his friends are very fond of him.
But at some point, everything changed.
When a friend casually draped an arm over Wu Shaoyan's shoulder as usual, the friend felt as if he had fallen into an icy abyss, then been roasted by the fires of hell and struck by blades and axes.
The friend let go at once and saw Wu Shaoyan looking concerned. “What's wrong? Are you all right?”
He was about to answer, but when he looked up, he saw a dense black shadow in front of him. His voice stuck in his throat.
The tall, entirely black shadow stood behind Wu Shaoyan, looming darkly, its eyes red as blood, steeped in ghostly menace.
“Stay away from him.”
-
Wu Shaoyan has a secret.
He is no ordinary child. He was born into an ancient family of exorcists, but as the youngest child with no talent whatsoever, he was abandoned by his parents and relatives early on.
But Wu Shaoyan never gave up. He kept practicing the secret art of summoning, and even when his body was covered in injuries, he didn't care.
Until the day a failed summoning spell exploded and sent him flying.
Before Wu Shaoyan could even recover from his miserable mood, he spotted a tall, silent shadow outside the courtyard.
His eyes lit up. “Are you my guardian spirit?”
-
He was different from the others.
The vengeful ghost, bound to this place, thought in silence. As always, it turned its gaze toward that child.
It had watched him being born and learning to speak, watched him grow up, full of life and confidence.
It had watched him struggle with the fact that he could not have the guardian spirit all exorcists were born with.
The vengeful ghost continued to watch him in silence: the child it had seen born and watched grow up.
Until that day.
Darkness shattered the seal. The child's relatives scattered and fled, leaving only him behind, still bewildered and unaware.
Just as the rampaging monster's desire for the child was about to become reality,
the vengeful ghost's shadowy form solidified, and it pulverized the monster to dust.
Before it could leave, someone threw his arms around it. His eyes shone with extraordinary brightness.
“Are you my guardian spirit?”
The vengeful ghost gave a strangely human nod, affirming that it was, and wrapped an arm around the boy's waist.
“Yes.”
It told a lie and won a child's sincere devotion.
But even if it fell into hell, it would never regret it, not even if it had to die nine times over.
