In games, Xu Yi plays as a girl and dates guys online. A couple of leg pics and a few calls of “big brother” are all it takes to get handsome guys lining up to offer him their hearts. The latest guy he’s hooked, Lu Xingyan, is a real catch: broad shoulders, a narrow waist, eight-pack abs, and a face that could make it onto a magazine cover even in his ID photo. The only problem is that he’s let slip in their chats that he’s “homophobic.” On move-in day, Xu Yi opens the dorm door and sees a guy by the window drying his hair. He nearly stops breathing. Isn’t this the guy he just started dating online?! “H-hi.” Xu Yi is so embarrassed he wants to crawl into a crack in the floor. Lu Xingyan tosses his towel over his shoulder and gives him a cool, indifferent “Mm.” His cold attitude leaves Xu Yi fuming. That night, he opens their chat under the covers and types furiously: I’ll send you leg pics tonight and make you call me baby! Xu Yi can’t bear to lose his handsome, considerate online boyfriend, but sharing a roof with him is painfully awkward. Especially since the guy is deeply homophobic. Just as Xu Yi worries that if his secret identity is ever exposed, Lu Xingyan will tear him apart, the story suddenly veers off course. When he oversleeps, Lu Xingyan helps him check in for class. When he slacks off, Lu Xingyan runs laps for him. He even patiently walks Xu Yi through their group project. By day, Xu Yi enjoys the warmth of their roommate friendship. By night, he admires the pictures of Lu Xingyan’s abs sent to his phone. He suddenly decides that even getting torn apart would be worth it. Until he sneaks a look at a handsome guy from the sports department in a bubble tea shop, and Lu Xingyan’s chilly voice rings out behind him: “I suspect my online partner lied to me.” Xu Yi’s hand shakes, and he nearly spills his drink. “Th-then what are you going to do…” “Obviously, confront him in person.” Lu Xingyan grabs his wrist and pulls him close, his breath brushing Xu Yi’s ear. “For example, make him pay back everything he took, with interest.” Xu Yi gets more and more scared. That very night, he blocks and deletes Lu Xingyan’s account at lightning speed. As long as his secret identity stays hidden, he can always find another handsome guy. Late at night, a drunk man corners Xu Yi in a supply closet, his back pressed against the cold wall. “I swear I won’t tell anyone!” “Just keeping quiet is enough?” Lu Xingyan grips his chin. His alcohol-laced breath is hot enough to make Xu Yi tremble. “You pretended to be a girl and flirted with me for three months. Now you want to run?” “Then what are you going to do…” As a shadow falls over him, Xu Yi hears a low, amused whisper: “Obviously, make up for everything you and your ‘girlfriend’ were supposed to do.” Theme: Don’t let yourself get stuck just because you’re in a desperate situation.
