Simulated Crime (Holographic Criminal Investigation)

After the third information technology revolution, forensic investigation made a major leap forward. The police launched a large-scale online, immersive forensic investigation System called Skynet.

When a crime scene has been preserved intact, investigators can upload the relevant data into Skynet to simulate the crime as it occurred. Skynet then automatically generates an artificial-intelligence NPC with no discernible facial features to play the criminal, recreating the crime scene in full within the simulation...

While Skynet was still in its trial phase, it greatly improved the rate at which many difficult cases were solved. But just as the police decided to put Skynet into official use, the System suddenly malfunctioned. It began automatically simulating numerous crimes that had not yet taken place. Even more baffling, those simulated crimes really began happening one after another in the real world...

*The artificial-intelligence criminal NPC is the shou; the number-one suspect in reality is the gong.

*Just reserving a spot here. I have a rough idea of the worldbuilding and may start writing in a year or two. A long crime-solving novel.

*An alternate, lightly futuristic setting with no connection to reality. Utter nonsense.
