Ghost Marriage

A Ruo was a farmer's daughter. For one hundred taels of silver, she agreed to a ghost marriage with a dead man.

The dead man was none other than the General Butcher, infamous throughout the land.

He had made a name for himself at a young age and won countless battles. Though blessed with a handsome face, he was bloodthirsty and cruel. No one had dared marry him while he was alive, and his face was unrecognizable when he died.

But A Ruo wasn't afraid. He was just a memorial tablet now. How vicious could he be? Was he going to rise from the dead?

Tan Tai Shi survived the battlefield and returned home, only to discover that he had gotten married.

His mother said his new bride was deeply devoted to him and slept with his memorial tablet in her arms every night. She even urged him to consummate the marriage soon and give the family an heir.

Tan Tai Shi, who had never cared for romance, thought nothing of it. Since he had come back alive, the ghost marriage didn't count. He could always pay her more to make up for it!

The first time he met his wife,

she threw her arms around him and wept, looking frail and pitiful.

Without a word, Tan Tai Shi slipped the divorce papers back into his sleeve.

The second time he met his wife,

someone spoke ill of him. Her pale little face flushed red as she clumsily defended him.

The fifth time he met his wife,

she was alone in her room, wiping his memorial tablet and silently shedding tears.

She loved him so much.

Tan Tai Shi decided that maybe this marriage wasn't such a bad idea after all.

That night, he decided to go see her.

But when he reached the bridal chamber, he heard her say, “So much money, so little work, and no need to consummate the marriage. This is the life of the immortals! Everyone in my village envies me...”

Tan Tai Shi's face darkened as he crushed the pastry in his hand.

The next day, he moved into the bridal chamber.
