Please Don't Leave Me

(Scum bottom, chasing-his-lover-to-the-crematorium trope)

Liang Yi has dreamed of the same scene countless times.

Shen Nannan clings to his arm and cries. "Bro, I was wrong. I really know I was wrong. I'd never seen the world before. I'd never experienced all that glittering nightlife."

Shen Nannan cries so hard he can barely catch his breath. "You can't just leave me like this. I'm still young. Young people make mistakes, please, bro, give me one more chance."

Liang Yi peels Shen Nannan's slender, pale fingers off him one by one and says without expression, "No."

Liang Yi disappears from Shen Nannan's world without looking back.

They meet again at a dinner party years later. Nobody knows about their relationship, and Shen Nannan now has a "good man" by his side.

Years have passed, and the childishness has long since faded. Their old grievances seem like a dream.

Among adults, laughing off past grudges has always seemed like the most popular and proper way to settle things.

Liang Yi has had a bit too much to drink and doesn't notice Shen Nannan following him into the restroom.

Though he's successful and has a "good man" by his side, Shen Nannan seems not to have grown up at all. He clings to Liang Yi's leg and won't let go, his beautiful eyes red. "Bro, I really know I was wrong. I won't do it again, bro."

Maybe because he's had too much to drink, Liang Yi feels a little dazed. He can't help remembering how that beautiful young man once cried so hard he could barely breathe, then wiped away his tears and threatened him after realizing there was no chance of getting back together.

"You'll regret this. I'll definitely do better than you. So many people like me. Who needs you?"

The person who once said he didn't need him and would definitely be fine is now crying so hard he can barely catch his breath. "I can't forget you, bro. You can hit me or scold me, just please don't leave me."

"No."
