The Emperor Obsessed with the Empress

[Sweet-talking crybaby puppy x mature, gentle older woman]

Shen Yan is an exceptionally mild-mannered new emperor.

His days are spent smoothing things over when the ministers at court get into arguments,

calming one down, then another, until he is thoroughly exasperated.

At last, the ministers turned their attention to him and recommended a woman to become the new empress.

As a wise ruler, Shen Yan gladly accepted their proposal.

On the night the dragon-and-phoenix candles were lit, the empress looked up. His heart and mind instantly reeled.

Shen Yan: "M-may I ask... am I in the mortal world or the celestial realm?"

Ruan Qinghui was selected for the palace and made empress in one fell swoop.

Knowing that emperors were often fickle, she constantly reminded herself

to be a dutiful empress and never let herself fall sincerely in love with His Majesty.

So, each day, besides managing the affairs of the inner palace, she urged Shen Yan to take concubines and continue the imperial family line.

But she discovered that her husband was not like other emperors.

Not only did he dislike taking concubines, he was also obsessed with writing her love letters.

At first, every time she finished reading one, she would break out in goosebumps,

then casually tuck it into a little box whose location even she could not remember.

Later, whenever she read them, the corners of her mouth would often curve like a crescent moon.

Sometimes her cheeks would even turn red, and she would carefully store the letters in a brocade box.

One day, Shen Yan came upon Ruan Qinghui looking bashful, and his heart and mind reeled once more.

Outwardly, he remained calm and composed. Inside, he was crying into a handkerchief: My empress is just too adorable, sob!
