In the year 3000 of the Star Calendar, a large number of artificial intelligences gained consciousness, bringing a major crisis to humanity's survival.

To recover all the rogue AIs, a new profession called “hunters” came into being.

Yi Heyе (bottom), a gold-medal hunter who had never once failed, had become a chilling legend among AIs with his ruthless decisiveness.

Some even went so far as to say, “Even AIs aren't this cold-blooded! He isn't even human!”

Jian Yunxian (top) was a top-tier AI who had escaped captivity. He was truly indistinguishable from a human and had never revealed himself to a hunter.

One day, while walking his sheep down the street, Jian Yunxian brushed past Yi Heye.

After all these years as a hunter, this was the first time Yi Heye had been chased all over the world by his prey.

Determined to live up to his reputation as a gold-medal wage slave, Yi Heye began an all-out fight with his quarry.

At last, one day, he cornered Jian Yunxian at the end of an alley:

“Finally caught you.”

Jian Yunxian smiled and pressed a dagger to Yi Heye's side.

“Who caught whom?”

At dawn, Yi Heye returned home with his crimson collarbone covered.

On the table lay a letter from yesterday's quarry

“Dear Mr. Hunter,

Please lock your doors and windows tonight.

I'll quietly come to your side,

tie you up,

and carve a little sheep

into your collarbone.”

[Things to Know Before Reading]

1. Yi Heye is the bottom and Jian Yunxian is the top. They're both strong; please don't switch them.

2. Includes a mystery plot, but it's not horror.

3. They love and fight each other. The overall tone is sweet, but this isn't a power-fantasy story, so please read with that in mind.

4. My own take on cyberpunk, with lots of original worldbuilding. Writing and reading are for fun, so don't take it too seriously.

5. One-on-one romance, happy ending.

Note: The one-line premise of this story comes from Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Androids, hunters, and electric sheep are all classic elements of science fiction. Feel free to discuss any questions civilly.

A hundred years ago, the “Mechanical Heart” descended upon the New World. Industry flourished, ushering in the Steam Age, and a new gospel arrived alongside it

God loves the world. God will eradicate all calamities and heresies.

Xue Rong was a gifted mechanic born into nobility, but because he defied God, he was deemed worthy of punishment and purification.

At the very moment before the “Hounds” took him away, he resolutely raised the pistol in his hand, despite his frail appearance.

A gunshot rang out. There was no turning back.

On the wanted posters, Xue Rong's codename was “BUNNY.”

There was no clear photo of his face. All anyone knew was that he had a rare pair of snow-rabbit ears, and that despite his sickly, pale appearance, he had made countless Hounds fail in their pursuit.

Hound One: I couldn't bring myself to do it. There are stars in his eyes. I couldn't bear to make him cry.

Hound Two: I don't believe it. He's so pale, soft, and sweet-smelling. How could he possibly be a wanted criminal?

Hound Three: I don't know. Not long after I arrived at the scene, he knocked me out...

After countless failed attempts to capture him, the ferocious Hound Wen Yubai was personally chosen for the mission.

Dragging heavy chains, he came out of his cage. His only task was to bring Xue Rong to justice. He would succeed or die trying.

After meeting Xue Rong

Wen Yubai: Then I'll die trying.

To keep the ferocious dogs from hurting people, Wen Yubai had to wear a specially made muzzle whenever he was free to move about.

The restraint had always troubled him, until Xue Rong, the very person he had been sent to capture, picked the lock on the Queen's army's armory right in front of him.

Wen Yubai immediately dropped his guard. “If you pick my lock, I promise I won't hunt you down again.”

Xue Rong leaned close to his ear and fiddled with it for a long while before smiling.

“I replaced it with a new lock. Now I'm the only person in the world who can open it for you.”
