[Blurb]
While investigating strange incidents in the sea, an investigative team was caught in a shipwreck. When they awoke, they found themselves stranded on an island that had never appeared on any map.
The island was full of strange things: faint whispers, malformed monsters, bizarre villagers, and a mad tower keeper...
Under the immense pressure, the team members began losing their minds one after another and jumping into the sea to kill themselves. Only He Wuzhong, a young elite investigator, adapted remarkably well.
He quickly adjusted to life on the island, started a catalog of its creatures, gathered tools to repair the ship, and actively searched for clues about the case.
*
The first time He Wuzhong saw A Hai, the boy was brandishing a weapon and fighting a mad monster in the dense forest.
The boy leaped high among the brutal monsters. "Thump! Thump! Thump!"
One hit per monster. It was like playing whack-a-mole.
The boy darted behind He Wuzhong and swung at a beast trying to ambush them like a golfer. "Boom!"
Only when blood and flesh were flying everywhere did He Wuzhong see that the weapon in the boy's hand was a human femur.
It worked even better than the gun in his own hand.
*
A Hai didn't seem to be human.
His severed limbs could grow back. Even after a beast chewed and swallowed them, they would return just as they were.
But there was a great empty hole where his heart should have been, and no flesh could grow there. When he ran too fast, the wind whistled through it, leaving him cold and uncomfortable.
Sometimes A Hai would pick weeds and stuff them into the hole, but he always thought it looked ugly. So he kept out of sight, not wanting the kind, powerful outsider to see him.
Until one day, He Wuzhong, drenched in blood and standing atop a mountain of white bones, picked the most beautiful flower on the island with his own hands and gently placed it in the empty hollow in A Hai's chest.
"Beautiful, pure, and radiant: A Hai's heart."
*
His heart began to beat. He took his hand and climbed from hell toward the human world.
