The Slender Moon Like a Hook

This idea came to me more than ten years ago. I only wrote the beginning back then, and now I'm picking it up again to finish it.

In 1911, the Double Ninth Uprising brought down the Qing government.

In the years that followed, the salt-and-tea merchants at the end of the ancient road came and went, one after another, and so did the money.

The muleteers who carried goods would never accept counterfeit silver dollars. They only trusted real silver ingots.

But the new government strictly controlled the mines, and everyone was required to use the new currency.

It was also the year he first received a commemorative coin inscribed "In Support of the Republic," worth three mace and six candareens.

Dao Mo followed the Tibetan muleteer Tsering Dondrup, entering Wu Well for the first time.

Wu Well produced fine white salt, as well as albinos with blue-moon eyes and snow-white skin.

He only had to look at him once for Dao Mo's heart to sink to the bottom of the deep well.
