The Firefly Spirit and the Imperial Guard

Huaying is a rare firefly spirit among the spirits. She comes to the human world to investigate the truth behind her friend's death sixteen years ago.

A fire has broken out in the mountains, and she rescues a man from the flames.

By rights, they have just met and shouldn't feel close, but she senses a familiar scent on him that makes her want to get closer.

The man says he's a palace guard of the current dynasty. If she stays by his side, she might be able to uncover the truth about her friend's death soon.

-

To investigate the theft of palace valuables, Shen Moheng concealed his identity and traveled from Chang'an to Luoyang, but his secret still accidentally got out.

He was trapped by a raging fire and on the brink of death when a young woman rescued him.

More precisely, she wasn't a young woman. She was a spirit.

She had never concealed her identity. Although Shen Moheng regarded her as something special, he had been taught since childhood that humans and spirits belonged to separate worlds, so he was deeply prejudiced against spirits.

On top of that, when he was three, his parents were apparently killed by a spirit, and the grudge had never left his heart.

At first, when Huaying pestered him to let her travel with him, he wanted nothing to do with her.

But as they solved one case after another, he gradually let go of his prejudice. Meanwhile, the truth about his parents' murder began to emerge, and it turned out her friend was involved too...

The dynasty is fictional. No need to fact-check.
