Don’t Look at Me, I’m Just Here to Fix the Water Pipe! [Unlimited Flow]

[The reader’s guide is in the author’s note of Chapter One. We strongly recommend reading it before deciding whether to continue. Thank you.]

[The male lead is love-struck and serves as our camera, since we need to show the players’ perspective, so he appears often. The female lead works behind the scenes and is too powerful to take part in some horror and suspense plots, so the male lead and supporting characters have to handle them to keep things exciting. Please understand. If you can’t accept this, please don’t read.]

[Since the female lead is so powerful, the male lead basically just provides emotional support. In short, he’s a pampered husband, and he can’t keep up in terms of strength. If you can’t accept that either, please don’t read. Thank you.]

Story blurb:

Su Yuexin works in the support department of an Infinite game.

Her main duties include, but are not limited to, fixing pipes and appliances for NPCs in various small worlds, along with all sorts of other odd jobs. Her daily routine is bringing water, electricity, Wi-Fi, and love (?) to ghosts and monsters, who look at her with gratitude.

Now and then she gets assigned other tasks, but they always seem to go unexpectedly wrong

When playing a player, Su Yuexin is huddled among a group of players, trembling and going, “Aah!”

A passing vengeful ghost rushes over enthusiastically: Teacher Xin, are you hungry? I’ve got snacks! The boss prepared them just for you!

Su Yuexin: ...?

When disguised as an NPC, Su Yuexin is mixed in with a group of ghosts, making an evil face and going, “Ooooh!”

A passing veteran player’s eyes light up: This little monster is so cute! I’m going to sneak it home and give it a couple of cuddles!

Su Yuexin: ...???

The problem is, after cuddling her, the guy actually wants to take her home!

Su Yuexin: My grip on the toilet plunger is getting stronger.

What do all these people think they’re doing? She’s just an ordinary repairwoman!

*

At first, Bai He thinks the girl he likes is just a cute newbie player with a special mission.

Later, he assumes she’s a weak NPC being exploited for labor.

Then he sees a boss holding a broken router and respectfully calling her “Teacher” over and over.

Bai He: ...Pupils dilated in shock.jpg

Su Yuexin’s response: A skilled technician fears nothing.

Su Yuexin, in other players’ eyes: A high-scoring player’s sweet little wife / always eager to get herself killed / a delicate little flower and a burden

Su Yuexin, in NPCs’ eyes: The all-purpose, multi-talented dungeon pro / an emotionless repairwoman / Can’t we just give her one little cuddle?

Su Yuexin, in the male lead’s eyes: Boss! Amazing! 666! See that one swinging a wrench? That’s my wife!

Su Yuexin, in her own eyes: Pay me extra, thanks.

*The heroine is a game employee, max level from the start, and gets almost no actual gameplay.

*That’s why the story sometimes switches to the male lead’s point of view during normal gameplay, so he can cheer the heroine on.

Blurb for my next story: The Word-Spirit Livestream Battle [Currently updating]:

Welcome to the Word-Spirit Livestream Battle. You are about to enter the Doomsday Zone.

Please draw your word-spirit category.

Draw complete.

Your word-spirit category is: Classical Poetry and Prose...?

*

The Word-Spirit Livestream Battle is one of the most popular livestream variety shows in the interstellar age. Its generous prize money is enough to help a dying planet recover.

Word-spirits are skills based on a particular category of language. The more familiar you are with that category, the more powerful they become.

Su Liang, once a resident of Earth and a guardian of a library during a great catastrophe, was transported to the interstellar world by an accident. She became the least talented member of a team that everyone disliked, and was forced to compete in the Word-Spirit Livestream Show to find information about her home.

The moment she draws the word-spirit category Classical Poetry and Prose, she knows she’s got this in the bag.

But then

[Your word-spirit category is Classical Poetry and Prose... Wait, no. It’s Listening Comprehension.]

[Sorry, calculation error. To reiterate, your exclusive word-spirit category is [Listening Comprehension].]

Su Liang is dumbfounded.

What leaves her even more bewildered is that her teammate is the one who drew the Classical Poetry and Prose word-spirit.

A book-ignorant killing machine who can kill anyone who stands in his way, even Buddhas, but can’t even recite “Goose, goose, goose.”

Su Liang thinks, We’re doomed. This time, we really might be done for.

*

At the time, no one could have predicted it.

As the livestream battle goes on, the phrase “The price of a shirt is nine pounds and fifteen pence” will become popular throughout the galaxy.

Su Liang will also teach the killing machine classical poetry and prose, word by word, under the gaze of every viewer.

Every word sounds timeless and profound, and each line becomes a weapon that lays waste to all in its path.

Thank goodness that person got this word-spirit, not me, that is what every contestant and viewer comes to think.

Otherwise, the game would be impossible.

Su Liang: ??? Could you wake up, please?

Su Liang: You’re acting as if I didn’t crush you all with Listening Comprehension.

*An interstellar livestream survival competition. You can tell from the blurb this isn’t exactly a serious story [not really].

*The blurb describes the first dungeon. From the second dungeon onward, the heroine switches to using the Classical Poetry and Prose word-spirit.

*Don’t worry about the male lead stealing the heroine’s spotlight. He’s just a strong but rather silly guy.

*All quoted classical poems and prose come from the wisdom of earlier generations, and will be properly cited. Please remind me if I forget.
