Mistakenly Seeing the Green Mountains

[Two stand-ins] [Old-school melodrama] [A love-triangle showdown early on, followed by a fiery pursuit of the heroine]

Ruan Qinglian was beautiful.

Her beauty had no edge to it. She had a cool, distant air and skin as pale as ice, with a body as delicate as jade.

And yet such a beauty was Shen Ji's caged bird.

Everyone knew Shen Ji. He was ruthless, capricious, and unrestrained, a notorious madman in their circle.

Everyone thought Shen Ji liked nothing but Ruan Qinglian's face.

Only Shen Ji knew the truth.

The first time he saw Ruan Qinglian was backstage at the annual film awards.

In the dim light, this "classically elegant beauty" praised by netizens had her head bowed as she smoked.

The scarlet glow of the cigarette lit her cool, indifferent face, and her features gradually overlapped with the image in Shen Ji's heart.

Through the pale smoke, she looked up and met Shen Ji's dark eyes.

From that moment on, Ruan Qinglian became Shen Ji's caged bird.

Shen Ji thought Ruan Qinglian loved him, because whenever she saw him, her cool eyes were always filled with tender affection.

Until one day, Shen Ji's white moonlight, Fang Shuyi, returned to the country.

Shen Ji loved Fang Shuyi even more than he had when they were young, and wanted to give her everything.

At a dinner party, Shen Ji's buddies brought Fang Shuyi along and jokingly called her their sister-in-law.

Shen Ji held Fang Shuyi, whose face had turned red as she hid in his arms. He looked up lazily and met a pair of cool, distant eyes.

Ruan Qinglian stood far away, watching him silently.

That night, Ruan Qinglian quietly moved out of Shen Ji's home.

With Ruan Qinglian gone, Shen Ji always felt that something was missing.

For the first time in his life, Shen Ji lowered his head and went to look for Ruan Qinglian.

On a stormy day, he watched through the curtain of rain as an unfamiliar man pulled Ruan Qinglian into his arms.

Ruan Qinglian closed her eyes and meekly accepted the man's kiss.

Shen Ji's expression darkened. Suppressing the violent fury swelling inside him, he was about to pull them apart when the man turned his head.

That face looked remarkably like his own.

In that moment, Shen Ji went mad.

So he was a stand-in in her eyes, too.

Only later did Shen Ji learn that Ruan Qinglian was a woman without a heart or feelings, and that he had been the one to willingly fall into her trap all along.
