I Have Never Seen the Milky Way

I can't post too many chapters in one day, so I'll put them up slowly.

I'll finish Galaxy eventually.

Thank you all for your patience.

"What does 'I've never seen the Milky Way' mean?"

"Oh, that? You drew it after we came back from the movies that winter, didn't you? The dialogue in that movie was pretty good. Do you remember? The heroine said, 'I've never loved anyone, and no one has ever loved me deeply. Not once.' Then, when we got home, I joked with you that true love was like a ghost: everyone had heard of it, but no one had ever seen it. And then you said some things were like the Milky Way. You'd see them naturally if you went somewhere with wide-open skies and endless horizons. But people just stayed in the city, living their lives beneath dim stars."

I've never truly been in love. I've never felt the shiver of two souls touching, never forgiven someone without limits or chased after them with my pride cast aside. I've never reverently knelt at anyone's feet, nor looked down at anyone with tenderness.

I've never seen the Milky Way.

"What's the most romantic story you've ever heard?"

"Do you know about elephants? They're very good at learning. A young elephant has a lot of survival skills to learn from its parents. Elephants abandoned by their herd are usually ill-tempered and spend their lives alone. I once heard a story about a wildlife sanctuary where an elephant abandoned by its parents met another orphaned elephant. They started a family and had lots of calves. Like any good parents, they taught their little ones how to use their trunks and find water. As if they had never been abandoned themselves."

"That's the most romantic story I've ever heard."
