Coming soon: It's Basically All About Infrastructure

Reincarnated as a dragon, the mightiest creature on a continent of magic, Rifeisite grows up happily as a lazybones. Once he comes of age, he's given a huge inheritance and a territory, then kicked out of the clan.

The trouble is, his territory is completely barren and not very comfortable to live in.

To save money,

he tricks the dwarves into moving in to build roads and houses.

He lures the elves into settling there to plant trees and beautify the surroundings.

He recruits a group of magical beasts who idolize dragons to serve as guards.

Getting anything done takes an initial investment, and somehow his gold coins start flowing away in a steady stream. With the coins he'd been using as bedding nearly gone, he decides to attract investors.

He brings in the sea folk to build a port and trade with the human kingdom across the water.

At long last, he's earned enough gold to fill his bed again, but the neighbors get jealous and start a war. Fine, he'll fight them, and build a Great Wall along the way, complete with magic cannons.

He expands his territory to include the neighboring lands. He can't just leave them lying around.

The infrastructure is complete, and once again, he's out of gold.

Worse yet, people keep multiplying like a snowball, and so do his responsibilities. His dream of lazing around, rolling on a bed of gold, gets further and further away.

“My lord, your territory is now large enough to establish an independent kingdom.”

“Your Majesty, the small kingdoms nearby have asked to become our vassals. We'll be an empire now.”

“One more thing, the treasury is short on funds again.”

If he'd just settled for some random cave from the start, he would have achieved his ultimate dream of lazing about ages ago.

With deep dark circles under his eyes, Rifeisite stamps the paperwork with no emotion. Don't ask. He regrets everything.

Theme: Nothing is impossible, as long as you're willing to strive for it.
