After Becoming a Tyrant

[His iron cavalry whips up a gale, his ships weave a web.

He commands the four seas. He is king of the world.]

Unwilling to die, Zhu Chi strikes a deal with the Devil in exchange for a chance to survive in another world. A new body, young, full of vigor and vitality.

At last, Zhu Chi escapes the medicinal smell of the hospital ward, and smiles with delight.

But as soon as he learns about his new identity, the smile gradually fades from his face.

He wears a royal robe and crown, and rules thirty-six states. He is the only emperor in the Western Continent.

He taxes the people mercilessly and wages wars at will, builds a carriage out of gold, and scorns divine authority while humiliating the Church.

He is a tyrant.

The Devil is a devil after all: treacherous, cunning, and devious.

Now, restored to health, Zhu Chi must face those who bear him a grudge:

One: a great nobleman stripped of his title

Two: a cardinal deliberately kept down

Three: a guild leader whose assets have been seized

Four: a...

And, in seven days, an assassination attempt.

If all goes as expected, he’ll be exiled four months from now, then hanged in front of Moen Tower.

Zhu Chi: Excellent.

He leisurely rolls up his sleeves and smiles.

So what if I’m a tyrant? If I want to, I can rule the world as one.

[I will make the rose banner fly across the continent, make the glory of the empire on which the sun never sets last forever, and make all the people bow before the golden carriage.

Because I

was born to be king.]

Do not mention other authors under my story, and do not mention me under other authors’ stories. It’s deeply disrespectful to both sides.]

My novel The First Boss of Strange Tales, coming next year, is open for advance collection. Xoxo

In the third year of spiritual qi revival, all of humanity is drawn into the real-life hunting game Strange Tales.

The game randomly selects ghost stories to create instances. Win, and the instance boss becomes a guardian deity protecting one region, keeping all evil at bay. Lose, and the monsters fully revive, laying waste to every area covered by the instance!

The stakes are enormous.

Players and livestream viewers alike hate nothing more than an idiot who drags everyone down.

Unfortunately, when a disaster-level instance opens, one such person gets matched into it.

Long silver-gray hair, a world-weary face, sickly and listless. He sleeps while others fight and takes a bath while others run for their lives.

No matter how good-looking he is, he can’t hide that “I don’t want to live, so everyone can die with me” vibe of someone who wants to take the whole world down with him.

Then they open his profile:

A 24-karat newbie.

Everyone’s vision goes dark. Damn, the boss could swallow him in one bite!

Wei E once got swept into another, higher-dimensional infinite world.

There was a minor instance every three days and a major one every five. Every instance was oppressive, mad, and hopeless, driving people to their deaths. No player had ever lasted three years, and Wei E was the first with a chance of surviving to year three, before he blew up the Supreme God.

As the Supreme God’s space collapsed,

Wei E looked back on three years of endless instances and five years of fighting for his life, and swore fiercely: If I get another life, I absolutely won’t get dragged into this again!

When he opened his eyes, Wei E was back on familiar Blue Star.

Before he could celebrate, he realized... the Supreme God had come along with him. :)

The day the hunting ground was destroyed, the Supreme God swore that sooner or later, it would kill that insolent insect.

Whenever Wei E happened to glance up while brushing his teeth, he’d see this written in the mirror: “In one hundred days, I shall kill you.”

On the fiftieth day, a player confessed to Wei E.

On the thirtieth day, Wei E topped the list of Strange Tales’ Most Charming Men.

On the tenth day, an instance boss threw itself into his arms.

On the fifth day, the third day, every day, someone on the forums called themself Wei E’s dog.

On the final day, the Supreme God did indeed grip Wei E by the throat, its voice sinister and frenzied. “I told you. Sooner or later, I’ll kill you.”

But as it watched Wei E’s casual smile, it thought that perhaps it should try another approach.

Like in bed.

Two

When Wei E cleared the first disaster instance, some people thought he’d just gotten lucky.

By the time one catastrophe-level instance after another had been conquered, death zones had come back to life, and the wasteland had been rekindled, they finally understood: it wasn’t luck, but power enough to make every demon quake with fear!
