Qu Zhuowei transmigrated one day and became a minor cannon-fodder character in a book, one who didn't survive past the first three pages.
The tyrant Xiao Ling was vicious and unpredictable, cruel and bloodthirsty. The original character merely glanced at him once and had his eyes gouged out before his body was abandoned in the wilderness.
Yet the System required him to reform and redeem the tyrant villain.
Qu Zhuowei: ? He's taller and more handsome than me, richer and more powerful than me, and even more ruthless. Which of us actually needs redeeming more?
System: You can also take the power fantasy route, overthrow the tyranny, and become emperor yourself.
Qu Zhuowei: ...Is there a third option?
The System immediately sent down a bolt of lightning, striking the tree next to him and turning it to charcoal.
Qu Zhuowei: The tyrant is dark and lonely inside. He clearly needs redemption. This redemption mission is wonderful. I love redemption missions so much.
Qu Zhuowei opened the System panel. The first mission: climb into his bed.
The second mission: become empress.
Qu Zhuowei: ? Is there a step missing in between?
Qu Zhuowei looked at the palace intrigue plan written by the System, which was as indecipherable as a heavenly text. After three lines, he gave up on the spot. He steeled himself, took off his clothes, and lay down on the tyrant's bed. Looking pitiful, he asked if the tyrant could make him empress.
The next day, Xiao Ling issued an imperial decree appointing him empress, and welcomed him into the central palace amid the beating of drums and gongs.
Qu Zhuowei was stunned and puzzled. "System, are you sure you haven't made a mistake? I think Xiao Ling is a really nice person."
System: His moods are unpredictable. Be careful, there could be a trap. Emperors hate sharing power. Test him.
That very night, Qu Zhuowei asked Xiao Ling if he could help him review memorials. The next day, Xiao Ling sent over a whole table full of memorials, along with a guide to reviewing them.
Qu Zhuowei: "I really think you have a prejudice against Xiao Ling."
System: He must be plotting something. Test him again. What do men hate the most?
That very night, Qu Zhuowei asked Xiao Ling if he could share his harem. Xiao Ling immediately had someone bring over the name tablets and told Qu Zhuowei to pick whichever ones he liked. He even had a luxurious palanquin prepared to take him there.
Qu Zhuowei was amazed, thinking that Xiao Ling really was a good person. But as soon as he entered the harem, the concubines rushed to the entrance, dropped to their knees with a thud, clung to his legs, and cried for help.
Qu Zhuowei saw the shackles on their feet and was scared into running back to Xiao Ling.
But the emperor, usually so gentle and refined, now wore a completely different expression. He held Qu Zhuowei captive in his arms, stroking his face as he chuckled. "What mission did the System assign you this time? Why not fulfill your duties as empress first?"
The next day, Qu Zhuowei tugged at the chain locked around his ankle and trembled.
The System hadn't been wrong. Xiao Ling really was a huge villain!
Was it still possible for him to escape?!
