Faced with a crowd of dragons fretting over their dwindling numbers until their scales nearly fell out from worry, Rong Jiu, a genetic scientist, assured them that modifying their genes to improve their survival rate would be easy. And so, the dragon race, long plagued by difficulties in producing offspring, entered the most prosperous breeding boom in its history. But it also brought a series of gene mutations that gave rise to new kinds of dragons. The entire dragon race has genetic defects and is on the brink of extinction. In his previous life, the Dragon King was an expert in researching cures for genetic diseases, and the condition he treats is the one afflicting the dragon race. The diverse dragon species are an unintended side effect of repairing their genes. This story does not involve inhumane, deranged genetic modification experiments. They were all big-bellied and chubby, with wings! He, on the other hand, was slender and skinny, with no wings. Long Chu felt inferior. The giant dragons were heartbroken. Thinking the little dragon was malnourished, they spoiled him rotten and tried to fatten him up with all sorts of supplements. But he couldn't absorb the nourishing foods the other dragons ate, and only got skinnier. Long Chu became depressed. Then one day, unable to resist his instincts, he ate a poisonous herb and accidentally awakened a memory of his inheritance. From then on, his world turned upside down. The Fengyue Grass other dragons considered poisonous made his cultivation soar. The Xuelan Stone other dragons dismissed as trash could be kneaded into powerful magical artifacts. He could use the White Moon Stones found everywhere in place of the magic crystals other dragons treasured. He could brew the potions other dragons struggled to obtain from weeds growing right underfoot. All the dragons cheered: "Ever since we got this little one, the Dragon God no longer has to worry about us getting ripped off by potion masters, mages, and artifact crafters!" Long Chu sighed: "You people throw spirit stones, spirit flowers, and spirit iron away like trash. It's too much." Later, Long Chu found a dragon egg more than twice his size and hatched a chubby little dragon. From then on, Long Chu had a little sidekick who followed him everywhere. Long Chu raised a claw with great bravado: "Little one, stick with me. I'll protect you!" The baby dragon flapped his wings excitedly: "Roar! Pounce!"
